Why is the red snapper season so short? While it can be frustrating, there are a few reasons:

🎣 Red snapper got so popular that when protections eased up even slightly, anglers caught them faster than the population could keep pace, which meant regulators had to tighten the reins.

⚖️ Back in the 2007-2013 stretch, recreational catch numbers kept overshooting the limits. The courts eventually stepped in and pushed for stricter accountability on how the season gets managed.

🐟 A lot of snapper get caught by accident since they're such a common bycatch, which adds up fast against the quota.

The good news? The population has been rebounding, and states like Florida are now testing longer, smarter, state-managed seasons. Bottom line: when the season's open, it's worth making it count.
