We are proud to give a shout out to long-time Stowe mentor Tim Loane, whose ten-part comedy, COMMITTED, has been greenlit by Canada’s CBC and BBC Northern Ireland. Dustin Milligan (Schitt’s Creek, Hot Frosty) plays Peter Hooley, a recently divorced Canadian accountant. Peter falls head over heels for Julie Johnston, a Northern Irish woman played by Diona Doherty (Derry Girls, Blue Lights). Peter crosses the Atlantic to declare his love, only to find himself in an old-fashioned, eccentric village in rural Northern Ireland.

Loane is showrunner, co-creator (along with Northern Irish producer Keith Martin), and head writer. Loane says, “It's a real delight to get this show over the line after so long in development, and it's been a thrill to work with our Canadian writers and co-producers. A proper cultural experiment!” Martin will produce the show. Writers working with Tim on the show include Jessie Gabe, Shebli Zarghami, and Kurt Smeaton.

We look forward to working with Tim again this fall at our Fifth Annual Connemara Writers’ Retreat, where we will lean into writing for television, showrunning, and working in writers rooms. Congratulations, Tim.

A spring shout-out to celebrate our incredible alumni; post 2 of 2.

Emma Schlenoff’s THE OBELISK had its recent International Premiere in Paris at The European Independent Film Festival, where it won Best Non-European Independent Dramatic Feature.

Heidi Hayward’s short film OK, CIA was successfully crowdfunded on Kickstarter. “Fed up with the homelessness in his neighborhood, an upwardly mobile guy spends 24 hours trying to help a woman off the street. How hard could it be?”

Steven Jon Whritner’s upcoming feature film, IT CAME FROM GRAND CENTRAL STATION, a family-friendly creature feature, is in pre-production. Written by Steven, Mark Bristol, and Koen Wooten, the film stars Thomas Haden Church and will be represented at Cannes by Rose Tint Films. The story follows David, a boy obsessed with scary movies, who receives a mysterious mail-order box containing an ancient talisman that brings the magical objects in his room to life - with chaotic consequences.

A spring shout-out to celebrate our incredible alumni; post 1 of 2.

Taratoa Stappard’s debut feature film MĀRAMA is now screening throughout the United States. Learn more and purchase tickets at maramafilm.com. “1859. When a young Māori woman is summoned from New Zealand to North Yorkshire, she uncovers her horrific colonial heritage and is compelled to confront and destroy the titled Englishman who devastated her family.”

Jeanine Frost’s is in the midst of a Seed & Spark crowdfunding campaign for her next film, an adaptation of the Scholastic Award-winning novella THE BOOKS, written by an 8th grader in Vermont. This intimate, speculative thriller is set on the rural fringes of an authoritarian regime, where 15 year old Sloane risks everything to save a piece of history. “The creation of THE BOOKS is a mother's act of radical listening. The fear children experience as our stable democracy erodes, is barely acknowledged. This film gives voice to our youngest generation, reinforcing values of truth, humanity and bravery. This is art as an act of protest. The film asks, what would you do if you knew you had only 8 minutes left to live?” https://seedandspark.com/fund/the-books
