Goddard Roundtable Writers' Confab

Goddard Roundtable Writers' Confab Annual writers' confabulation featuring Goddard alums & special guests

Three days of life the way you thought it would be lived when you dreamed of becoming a writer: writing, workshops, discussions, chautauquas, tete-a-tetes, readings, prizes, great food, boozy late nights...hell, we can even boast a marriage between band members.

Hello, pals. Greetings from the future. I know: It's been a long time since we rock and rolled--and did the stroll. I'm not even sure how many of you will receive/view this.

I write about the impending closure of our beloved Goddard College, as you have now undoubtedly heard. This is nothing more than a message to connect back with you and to remember that we were once young, and good.

And we still are. Time cannot rob us of that special time and place that cast us together. Our process is fully known, and we share a mind. Invoke that mind as needed.

And don't cry for Goddard. It lives in us, manifesting itself in every gesture, every keystroke, every moment we interact with the world. We express Goddard and its philosophy with relentless love and focus, and we will pass that on. We don't need a stamp for that.

Be well, do good work, and stay in touch.

Thought this was interesting. And maybe a little uplifting.

Two debut novelists, Stephen Kelman and A.D. Miller, are among the six titles in contention for the Man Booker Prize for Fiction. The shortlist is dominated by independent publishers, though not featuring any of the smaller indies who featured on the 13-title long list.

Last one. Sad that folks are going to be unemployed. Not sad that smaller indies might make a comeback.

Soon there be only one place in Vermont's largest city to buy books. The Borders bookstore is going out of business. The nationwide chain is also closing stores in Plattsburgh, Lebanon, and Keene.

Proof that anything can happen with a book. Anything.

Good books don't die, they just go out of print. That’s a very 20th-century adage, but it applies to Austin Wright, whose 1994 novel, , is being reissued by Grand Central this summer after being unavailable for nearly 20 years.
