October 2 is approaching—and there may be something in the woods.

The iconic footage that made Big Foot a legend still leaves us looking twice: a shadowy figure crossing the forest floor, a slow purposeful stride, and that unforgettable glance back toward the camera. This October 2, The Stillwater Collective invites believers, skeptics, and the simply curious to step into the mystery with us at our Big Foot event.

Will you spot a clue? Hear a story? Leave wondering what is really out there? Join your neighbors for a community gathering inspired by the wild, the unexplained, and the enduring legend of Big Foot.

Save the date: October 2. Keep your eyes on the tree line.

The Stillwater Collective’s salmagundi may have begun earlier than we thought.

In the New Jersey Herald of May 16, 1918, an announcement invited the community to the Stillwater Presbyterian Church for a series of entertainments: Foster’s Village Choir, a humorist sharing songs and stories, and an evening of monologues, parodies, character songs, and impersonations.

A choir. A humorist. Story, music, laughter, and a little delightful unpredictability—all gathered under one roof.

The additional clippings tell an even longer story. Across generations, this building has appeared in the local record as a place of worship, a gathering place, a setting for community events, and a landmark in Stillwater’s shared history. The particulars have changed; the instinct to gather has not.

So perhaps the salmagundi we call the Stillwater Collective is not entirely new. Perhaps we are carrying forward a long local tradition of making room for curiosity, creativity, fellowship, and the unexpected.

Which brings us to Thursday, October 2: join us for our Bigfoot event. A village choir and a humorist were apparently right at home here in 1918, so an evening devoted to one of the great mysteries of the woods feels perfectly in keeping.

From a collection of New Jersey Herald clippings spanning 1906–2020, including the May 16, 1918 announcement.

Did Bigfoot take a trip to the East Coast? 🌲👣
Fifty years ago, a wave of mysterious sightings gripped New Jersey’s swamps and far-flung rural communities. While many wrote it off as folklore, seemingly reputable sources began to wonder if the legendary Sasquatch of the Pacific Northwest was actually spending time in our own backyards.
Check out this NorthJersey.com article looking back at the 1970s craze that had the state talking: [Link to article]
Are those stories just myths, or is there something still walking in the woods today?
Come find out. Join Michael Familant—producer and lead investigator of In the Shadow of Big Red Eye—for an evening of raw field stories, evidence, and a live Q&A right here in Stillwater.

Hoax or something hiding in the shadows? 🌲👣
Watch what happened when Michael Familant and a bushcraft team pushed deep into a gator-infested swamp and stumbled across massive footprints in the hard-packed mud. The prints were pushed deeper than a grown man could replicate by jumping on one foot—and later that night, a howling session got a chilling response from the dark.
Why would a prankster hike into an overgrown, inaccessible swamp just to leave prints no one was meant to find?
Take a look at the evidence in the video. What do you think is out there?
If you want to hear the raw stories behind investigations like this, join Michael Familant LIVE at The Stillwater Collective on Friday, October 2, 2026.
