Routt County Riders

Routt County Riders Routt County Riders, an IMBA Chapter, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to all things cycling.
(2)

Routt County Riders began in the early 1990s as a group of mountain bikers interested in building and maintaining trails in our area. In the early 2000s, local road cyclists started showing up to meetings asking for representation to advocate for safer roads. As interest and membership grew, we began to support programs and scholarships for youth cycling, community cycling initiatives and advocacy

, and both mountain and road cycling events. Today we are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) Chapter club that continues to grow and represent more variations of biking, including downhill/freeride, year-round commuting, and adaptive cycling. Routt County Riders, an IMBA Chapter, is a volunteer-based, membership-driven organization. As a bicycle advocacy group, we offer input to and through numerous governmental agencies including: CDOT, Northwest Transportation Region, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Routt County, the City of Steamboat Springs, the Emerald Mountain Partnership, and others. We work to advocate for, promote, and enhance all forms of cycling on trails, roads, and pathways in Routt County. See https://www.trailforks.com/region/steamboat-springs/ for detailed trail information.

Most of you know about our community bike shop hours every Wed/Thurs 5-7 pm at 2730 Downhill Plaza, unit 106a, but did you know…

Starting Tuesday, 16 Jun, 6-8 pm, we’ll be resuming our 🔧 women’s maintenance clinics!

We at ❤️🚲 Bike Match 🚲❤️ are grateful for our community partners. We collaborate with Boys and Girls Club of Steamboat Springs to keep two, soon to be three fleets of BGC bikes running—that’s hundreds of repairs a season. Program Director Kelly Landers and her crew have brought so much riding joy to hundreds of boys and girls.

We also use the community shop to help Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club ❄️ ensure its fleet is ready for its youth programs. Cycling director Evan Soard makes sure any kid who wants to participate in the SSWSC cycling programs has access to a bike suitable to mountain biking.

Helen Beall and the The Cycle Effect use our community bike shop to help train their coaches on basic bike maintenance—and we
match bikes to family members wanting to ride with their daughters. 🔧⚙️

These are some of the things your donations to Bike Match and our community bike shop make possible. We are determined to ensure that every child in our community has an opportunity to experience the joy of cycling. 🚵🏽‍♀️ Thank you to all those cyclists that continue to support RCR and our community partners! , ,

✨A Letter to my RCR Community✨

Welp - it’s been quite the wild ride! It’s time for me to make some big changes in my life, and that means moving on from Program Director at Routt County Riders 🥲

These past three seasons plus some have brought incredible friendships, ripping good trails (and many scrapes and bruises), and so much FUN! I feel so lucky to have been immersed in the joy, passion, and love that bikes bring to our community.

Obviously, it’s always been so much more than biking for me - bringing the freedom, growth, and opportunity that wheels provide to you all has filled my cup beyond belief and I will deeply miss that!

But I can’t wait to see you all on the trails (Routt County can’t get rid of me), so hit me up for a gravel gab, trail tag, or just a coffee chat 🫶🏼

With that, we’re looking to fill the Program Director role ASAP - applications will remain open until filled! For all details, please see here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dxMOKL6R7L9G1Okom8jjIACFs8u3sg96/edit?usp=drivesdk&ouid=109463180465988119290&rtpof=true&sd=true

With the wind in our hair,

Lucy ♥️

Wooooo doggy, did we have the best time hanging with the 6th graders of Steamboat Springs Middle School this week! 🫶🏼🚲🤩

139 students took to the streets and trails of downtown Steamboat to practice safe riding with our fleet of incredible volunteers and SSMS staff ⭐️

After an excellent safety introduction with our local Community Service Officers and Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue team, we perfected:

🪖 Helmet fitting
🚲 Checking our Air, Brakes, and Chains
🛑 Properly stopping at intersections
🚵‍♀️ Good trail etiquette
⚡️ Ebike safety
… and so much more!

We also got 5 students out on bikes for either their first time or back in the saddle after a long time and gained so much confidence on two wheels thanks to 💛

We can’t wait for next year! Until then, safe riding everyone! 😎📚☀️

THIS TUESDAY! 🚲 Join us for a very special (and free!) workshop at the RCR office:

Whether you ride mountain, gravel, or road, staying healthy and consistent on the bike takes more than just riding more. 🫣

From .uplift at Uplift Performance & Rehab comes “The Resilient Rider” — a workshop focused on helping cyclists prevent common injuries, train smarter, and keep progressing all season long. 🧠

💪🏼 You’ll learn practical strategies for managing pain early, improving strength and mobility for cycling, and avoiding the setbacks that keep riders off the bike.

Routt County Riders Bike Match is supporting the Oak Creek Library today with our annual cycling event. We’re giving 10 minutes on bike maintenance, a little on the new bike trail at the Oak Creek Mountain Park, and then we’ll stay ‘til 12:00 helping folks get their bikes ready for the season. Come join us along with this big ol’ Cecropia Moth (biggest moths in North America) for some bike fun!

We’ve been having a blast riding our bikes with sixth graders in Routt County! 💥

So far, 65 students from Hayden Valley Middle School and Sleeping Giant Middle School have gone through this year’s Street Smarts Bike Safety Program!

They’ve learned:

🚲 How to make sure their bikes are ready to ride
🪖 How to probably fit their helmets and why they’re important
🚦 The rules of the road
⚠️ Proper trail etiquette

And much more!

Next week, we’ll be headed to Steamboat Springs Middle School to hang with 90 of their students over 3 mornings! We’re still looking for volunteers — if you’d like to lend a hand in this fun & important program (plus ride your bike!), head to this link to learn more! 📖 https://x.gldn.io/pavdyb03a3b

As always, huge thanks to our partners: , Hayden PD, SSPD, SSFR, RCPH, 🫶🏼
