From the US Forest Service: Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests and Thunder Basin National Grassland

The Hahns Peak/Bears Ears Ranger District has released a draft environmental assessment for an Expression of Interest on the Routt National Forest, located in Moffat and Routt Counties, Colo. The proposed action is to consent to the BLM leasing nominated parcels for oil and gas development. The draft environmental assessment is undergoing a 30-day comment period which begins on Thursday, June 18, 2026.

To review the draft environmental assessment and associated documents, including the legal notice published today in the Steamboat Pilot and Today, please visit the project website at: https://www.fs.usda.gov/r02/mbrtb/projects/329269.

You can provide electronic comments via the Forest Service’s Comment Analysis and Response Application at https://cara.fs2c.usda.gov/Public/CommentInput?Project=329269, or by mail or in person at 925 Weiss Drive, Steamboat Springs, CO 80487. Please call (970) 870-2299 for office hours.

After the 30-day comment period, the forest will consider public comments and prepare a finding of no significant impact.

The Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest has received Expressions of Interest on the HPBE District to lease ten parcels to the BLM for a potential future oil and gas lease sale and subsequent exploration and development.
