Two conceptual design plans for the new Civic Plaza, which will be located on 10th Street between Oak Street and the alley, will be shared during open houses next week in Centennial Hall.

“This area has had a civic and municipal presence since the founding of the town and the new civic plaza has the potential to highlight that historical significance,” said Deputy City Manager Tom Leeson.

The city will host two open houses for community input on Tuesday, May 23, from 5 – 7 PM and again on Wednesday, May 24, from 8 – 10:30 AM, in Centennial Hall (124 10th Street).

I work for an amazing community organization called Steamboat Creates. We manage public art, kids classes, First Friday ArtWalk and stewardship of a historic Art Depot and Caboose - among other things arts, culture and heritage.

Today is Colorado Gives Day, a day of giving to nonprofits that make a difference. By giving where we live, we make public art possible. We make art possible. In the mindset of creativity, everything is possible. Thank you for supporting our busy year of creativity for our community and visitors. It couldn’t happen without YOU!

Watch out! The Cougar has landed in the purrrr-fect location to keep an eye on the Yampa River Core Trail. The public art piece has had nine lives moving around the community before finding its current and hopefully final resting spot just south of Dr Rich Weiss Park. Thanks to Steamboat Creates.

The Cougar is a bronze sculpture that sits atop an 8,000 pound Colorado Buff Sandstone boulder. It was created by the talented Colorado artist, Rosetta. Check out her award winning sculptures of animals native to Colorado: https://www.rosettasculpture.com/about-rosetta.html

Repairing and relocating this stunning artwork has been a collaboration with the City of Steamboat Springs, Steamboat Creates, the Downtown Public Art Fund and our awesome team of conservators.
