Intern Highlight: "As the Yampa River closes earlier and earlier, and wildfires create hazardous levels of smoke in the valley, climate change is decreasing our opportunities to come together as a community in the ways we once took for granted.

However, taking action to support climate resilience in the Yampa Valley can be a powerful new way to bring local residents together, encouraging community togetherness and benefitting the environment."

Thank you to our volunteers who came out with Western Resilience Center's Climate Crew and the US Forest Service to collect lodgepole cones last week. We collected 11 bushels of cones, which equates to 203,390 future seedlings!

This project helps restore our seed banks so we have enough seedlings for future burn scar planting projects that help our forests recover after fire.

We are in Stage 2 Water Restrictions, which means that customers of City of Steamboat Springs - Government and Mount Werner Water must follow the outdoor watering schedule: Water before 10 a.m. or after 6 p.m. to reduce evaporative loss, and water no more than two days a week, based on the last number (even or odd) of your address. Together we can conserve more for a sustainable Yampa Valley!

Waste Tip: Be sure to clean recyclable materials from all food debris. Cleaning your containers helps reduce contamination and improve the quality of recyclable materials, making it easier to process them into new products!

Join Western Resilience Center and Upper Yampa Water Conservancy District for a Community Meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 26 from 1-2 p.m. to hear about Upper Yampa's multi-year water quality monitoring and modeling project in response to algal blooms and water quality concerns at the reservoir.
