Join the Friends of the Staunton Library for a Community Cleanup!

Spring is here, and Earth Day is right around the corner. What better way to celebrate than rolling up our sleeves and showing some love to the streets around our library?

The Friends of the Staunton Library are partnering with the City of Staunton's Adopt-a-Spot program for a community cleanup on Saturday, April 18, from 10:00 a.m. to noon. We'll meet at the front door of the Staunton Public Library and head out to spruce up the surrounding streets together.

All cleanup materials will be provided, including gloves, safety vests, trash bags, and grab sticks. Just bring yourself, wear closed-toe shoes and clothes you don't mind getting a little dirty, and come ready for a good morning outdoors. A liability waiver will be signed on-site before we get started.

Everyone is welcome, whether you're a Friends member or a neighbor who wants to pitch in. Volunteers under 15 are welcome too, as long as they're accompanied by an adult.

We need a headcount to make sure we have enough supplies for everyone, so please sign up by Thursday, April 10.

With this weekend’s anticipated winter storm, the Staunton Public Library will be closed Sunday, January 25. Additional changes to the Library’s schedule are possible depending on the severity and timing of the inclement weather. All updates will be posted on social media, WHSV, and the library’s phone messaging system at 540-332-3902.

Heads up!

Special Closure Announcement!

We'll be closed Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026 for a planned maintenance project in the building. The project requires that the power be turned off for the duration of the work. The Library will resume its normal schedule at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7. During the special closure, the outdoor book drop will be open for returns, and digital books and other online resources are available 24/7 at https://www.ci.staunton.va.us/departments/library

Visit the 1st Floor now through December to experience the work of local artist and Staunton Public Library staff member Christine Anderson, of soul painted wings. Christine is captivated by the beauty and resilience of tree limbs during her walks in Gypsy Hill Park and uses brilliant colors to create stories, even without defined imagery.

We had a wonderful meal at our Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon yesterday. Thank you to all of our 2025 volunteers. We couldn't have accomplished anything this year without you. Special thanks to Tammy and Bonnie for organizing this beautiful gathering of Friends ❤️

We want to thank everyone who came out to the Book Sale last week! We are thrilled to share that the event raised over $5700! That money will be put into Staunton Public Library programs, equipment, books, and other supplies.

An EXTRA SPECIAL THANKS to folks who donated during the sale. We love to offer a bargain at the Book Sale, but there are some angels out there who just want to donate and share the love. Thank you so much. We are so thankful to be part of this wonderful community.

We have some big news, we are expanding! The Community Gear Library will soon be part of Staunton Public Library and we are so excited!
