Baby Mocha Update! 🎀🍼🐘
On May 14, 2023, a strong tropical cyclone named Cyclone Mocha struck western Myanmar, leading to the discovery and heartwarming rescue of an orphaned baby Asian elephant. The vulnerable, lone calf was found on the exact day the powerful cyclone made landfall. Because of the circumstances of her rescue, she was affectionately named "Mocha".
Following her rescue, she was transported to an elephant camp in Yangon. Asian Elephant Support stepped in to provide funding for specialized care, medical attention, and supplemental formula to ensure her survival.
This year, AES again provided funding to help build a new space suitable to caring for a growing calf. Because of the remote circumstances of Mocha’s residence, updates can be difficult to attain. But recently one of Mocha’s sponsors was able to send us a lovely update with new pictures of Mocha thriving!
“It’s a wonderfully spacious, open area with plenty of room for little Mocha. Mocha is growing big and she is doing very well. She still craves her milk, but she is thriving and loves exploring the reserve with three other elephants. She’s never lonely; she enjoys spending time at her private residence with her caretakers, and every morning she joins the herd to play too. I am so happy to share this good news with you! AES helped save her life when she first arrived, and it means so much to see her grow stronger every day.”
