How Do You Approach Teaching Boundaries and Consent?

Boundaries are a part of everyday life. They help us communicate what we are comfortable with, make choices about our bodies, time, space, and relationships, and respect the boundaries of others.

As someone who supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, you play an important role in helping people understand their boundaries, communicate their choices, and recognize when someone is not respecting them.

This month’s article from Elevatus Training provides practical tips, discussion ideas, and a teaching handout you can use together to explore personal boundaries and practice ways to communicate and respect them

14 Hospital Calls. 14 Times SAFE Was There.

Since the start of FY27 on July 1, SAFE Advocates have already responded to 14 hospital calls for survivors of sexual violence. No matter the time of day or night, SAFE responds!

Medical advocacy is more than simply showing up. Our advocates provide immediate, confidential support, explain survivors' rights and options, including protective orders, help them navigate what comes next and ensure they do not have to face an overwhelming experience alone. Advocates also can provide a change of clothing if the survivor needs them.

This work demonstrates why victim advocacy is an essential part of a coordinated community response to sexual violence. Survivors are best served when law enforcement, medical professionals, prosecutors, child advocacy professionals, victim advocates, and other community partners work together, each bringing an important and distinct role to support the survivor.

SAFE will continue to show up, collaborate, advocate, and ensure survivors have a voice. Empowerment leads to healing. SAFE provides empowerment through confidential, trauma informed advocacy and counseling services.

If you, or someone you know needs support, please call: 1-800-625-1414.
An Advocate is available 24/7 for support.

Digital abuse is still abuse. 📱💙

Technology should help us connect - not be used to control, threaten, monitor or harm someone. Digital abuse can take many forms including unwanted sharing of private images, online harassment, monitoring devices or accounts, and using technology to intimidate or control a partner.

At SAFE, we are committed to prevention, education and support. Everyone deserves to feel safe online and offline.
