The world’s food system (farm to fork) has been sorely tested since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. And frontline farmworkers, including farmers of color, have taken a brutal hit amid a global hunger crisis.

As we kick off the 2021 Offering of Letters to Congress, you are warmly invited to attend a webinar on March 24 at 6 p.m. (ET) to learn about the connection between efficient, equitable food systems and how public policies may ensure these systems — and the people who drive them — recover from the devastating impact of COVID-19.

We are so excited to welcome Rev. Eugene Cho as President of Bread for the World! 💕✨

I have some big personal news to share. Exciting, intimidating, humbling...and I covet your prayers.

I was unanimously voted to become the next President/CEO of Bread for the World in Washington DC. BREAD is a non-partisan Christian advocacy organization dedicated to ending hunger - both in the United States & around the world. BREAD is a prominent organization that has been engaged in this critical discipleship of advocacy for the hungry/vulnerable since its inception in 1974. I will assume this role in July and will replace the incomparable Rev. David Beckmann who has served so passionately for 29 years.

I could have never envisioned this would be what God had in store for us once I stepped down as senior pastor at Quest. I had no idea that when I started writing my new book, "Thou Shalt Not Be a Jerk: A Christian's Guide to Engaging Politics," that I would find myself eventually leading as a pastor within the world of policies, elected leaders, activists, organizers, and legislative powers.

Through our discernment the past few months, Minhee and I wrestled and prayed through numerous possibilities but in the end, we were convicted to DOUBLE DOWN to care for the poor, hungry, and vulnerable. We’re just so humbled to do that work with BREAD and One Day's Wages. In a world that often ignores or even vilifies the poor, we believe the Church needs to keep Micah 6:8 central to our calling and discipleship.

While my engagement will adjust with ODW, I’ll continue to serve as President/Visionary (non-paid) as I focus on big picture strategy. This is only possible because of our incredible staff, board members, and team.

ODW impacts thousands of people through direct relief but BREAD will have the capacity to inform significant policies that will impact millions of people and the allocation of millions of dollars for the purpose of empowering the poor. So, please join us at Bread for the World! I’m looking forward to meeting and working with the entire BREAD team and throwing people off with my power tie game.

I’ll continue to travel wisely and keep preaching to encourage churches and leaders. To invite people to a transforming personal relationship with Jesus AND the transformative work of God’s Kingdom here on this earth. In other words, we need both heart change and structural change. Both matter.

Finally, pray for me and my family. We’ll undergo a rollercoaster of emotions as we eventually say good-bye to the only city that we have known as a family. I’ll be commuting for one year before moving to DC in the summer 2021.

Thank you, Jesus.

Ending hunger in a lasting, sustainable way requires identifying and resolving its root causes. While hunger and poverty rates have declined nationwide, people of color consistently have far higher rates of hunger and poverty than whites.

In 2018, 37.2 million people were food insecure. Cutting access to programs to nutrition programs like SNAP will only increase hunger.

This holiday season, give the gift of volunteering!

The holidays are a time of happiness and joy meant to be spent around the fireplace with family and exchanging thoughtfully selected presents. For many in the Springfield area, however, this kind of holiday is far from reality. Instead, they may be wondering if they’ll be able to afford toys for their children this year or if they’ll have a place to stay when the weather gets bitterly cold. As we enjoy our safe, happy holiday, the need of our less-fortunate neighbors persists.
