HB 5390 helps protect patients in Illinois from getting stuck with medical debt. It does this by making financial assistance approvals last at least 12 months after a patient’s first visit, so people don’t have to keep reapplying over and over again. The bill also requires hospitals to include the same standard financial assistance form in every application, making the process more consistent and easier to understand.
