The Sangamon County Coroner, Jim Allmon, can confirm the identity of the man who was transported by EMS to HSHS St. John’s Hospital’s emergency room after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a truck near the intersection of 9th Street and Carpenter Street yesterday.

JB Logan, 77, of Springfield was pronounced dead at 2:54 p.m., shortly after his arrival to the emergency room.

An autopsy was done today and preliminary findings show Mr. Logan died from blunt force injuries sustained in the crash.

The death remains under investigation by the Sangamon County Coroner and the Springfield Police Department.

On behalf of the Springfield Aldermanic Black Caucus, I extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the 14-year-old child who tragically lost his life following yesterday evening’s accident in Springfield.

This heartbreaking tragedy has touched our entire community. We mourn alongside the family and pray for strength, comfort, and peace during this unimaginable time. No family should ever have to endure the loss of a child.

We also continue to keep the first responders, medical staff, classmates, neighbors, and all those impacted lifted in prayer as the investigation continues.

May God wrap His loving arms around the family and may this young soul rest in eternal peace. 🕊️
