L. A. Tifft Camp 15 SUVCW Founded in 1883. Preserving the history, memory and artifacts of the Civil War and the GAR L. A. It is the successor of the GAR. SUVCW L.A.

Tifft Camp 15, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War from Springfield, MA. is the oldest camp in the state of Mass., it is the only camp located in Western Mass. The SUVCW is the oldest fraternal and patriotic Veterans organization in the United States. The mission of the SUVCW is to keep the memory of not just Civil War but all veterans alive also any artifacts and history pertaining to the Civ

il War. Tifft Camp 15 participates in many patriotic and veteran programs all over Massachusetts throughout year. Meets 4th Wednesday of the month except for January, February, July, August, and December.

Passing of The Last Real Son Brother William Pool

It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of Brother William Pool, the last son of a Civil War soldier, on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at the age of 101.

Brother Robert AuBuchon received this news this evening from Brother Pool’s daughter, Carolyn George. Funeral services will be held at Pitts Chapel in Bolivar, Missouri, followed by burial at Enon Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Morrisville, Missouri. Funeral arrangements are pending. Brother AuBuchon will remain in contact with the family and will share any additional information as it becomes available.

Please keep the Pool family in your prayers during this time of loss.

Brother Pool’s father, Charles Pool, served in Company “D” of the 6th West Virginia Volunteers. Brother Pool served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater.

In memory of Brother Pool, The Department and Camps Charters along with their websites shall be draped. All Brothers of the Department of Missouri shall attach a black mourning ribbon to their membership badge. Considering his status, I am asking that these mourning observances be observed for a period of 30 days from the date of this Order:

Bottom is the E. K. Wilcox Post 16, Department of Massachusetts, Grand Army of the Republic (It was to this Post that Lewis Tifft belonged to)
