As May and Mental Health Awareness Month come to a close, we want to remind you that mental health conditions impact individuals daily. Continuing to learn about and understand mental health can help reduce stigma, build respect, and help start conversations. Connections, respect, and empathy are huge components of supporting someone you know or love who is living with a mental illness or condition.

OS, Inc. and the Youth Advocates want to encourage you to take care of yourself – you can’t help others if you don’t help yourself first. We also want to remind you that you aren’t alone and help is available. If you or someone you know needs help, you can call or text 988. If you are in need of emergency services, call 911.

Mental health impacts us all – in our own lives or in the lives of those we love. Committing to having open, honest, and positive conversations creates spaces that foster connections, respect, and stigma reduction. The words we say matter, so be mindful of the language you use and continue to educate yourself as language evolves.

OS, Inc. and the Youth Advocates want to remind you to speak positively about and to yourselves, speak intentionally and compassionately to others, and celebrate people and moments that empower you. If you or someone you know needs help, you can call or text 988. If you are in need of emergency services call 911.

Supporting youth and children's mental health is a shared responsibility. Communities, schools, parents/caregivers, healthcare providers, and everyone in between all play a part in reducing the stigma surrounding mental health, creating support systems, and spreading awareness about warning signs and early intervention.

When you or someone you love faces a mental illness, you are not alone and neither are they. Support and resources are available in each community. If you or someone you know needs help text or call 988. If you are in need of emergency services - call 911.

April was another busy month of creating impact, leaving legacies, and empowering student leaders across Illinois. OS, Inc. had the opportunity to celebrate the many successes of OS Chapters throughout the 2025-2026 school year through the Awards Luncheon, final spring retreats, end of the year surveys, and countless emails reflecting on another strong year of OS programming.

There is still time to check out the OS Member’s Portal before June 30. If you are a part of an OS Chapter and need help logging in, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

OS, Inc. wishes everyone a great final month of school and a fantastic summer! We hope to see you at CGTI 2026 – trust us, you don’t want to miss it!

Mental Health Awareness Month is observed in May. Mental illness and health conditions are more than a diagnosis and are not personal failures for the individuals living with them. Throughout the month, the OS Youth Advocates will share different facts, resources, and tools that can be used to spread awareness, start conversations, and reduce stigma.

If you or someone you know needs help, you can call or text 988. For emergency services, call 911.
