Pastor Rebecca Francis planted a church in Kitui, Kenya, an area marked by drought and poverty, after hearing people cry out for a fellowship of their own.

Her congregation had no permanent place to meet until the Churches Under the Tree Project provided a structure. "That tabernacle, it helped us," she says. "People are so joyful to see what God can do."

Rebecca believes it's only the beginning. Many will be healed, many delivered, as Kitui's believers have a place to gather. She says, "I have faith that through that tabernacle, many will be healed, many will be delivered, and that will be the turning point of the area."

In Africa, 867 unreached people groups still live without adequate gospel witness. Live Dead Africa's Launch Team in Mombasa exists to raise up workers to reach them, equipping trainees over 11 months for church planting, Bible school ministry, children's ministry, and more.

Beyond language and missiology, one of the most vital parts of their training is mentorship from experienced missionaries like Glen and Karen Smith. The Smiths felt God calling them to help start this Launch Team. "We have always loved discipling people, and particularly young workers," Glen says. "We're in the season in life where we really felt God saying, 'Now is the time to find those who walk on after our time is done.'"

Through their mentorship, a new generation of workers is being equipped to go wherever God sends them next.

Four years ago, Sarah felt God calling her to start something new.

She obeyed, went to a new area, and planted Enkonerei Church under a tree. In the beginning, the congregation consisted of five women, three men, and a few children. Because they were meeting under a tree, they often had to run into houses to worship and teach until storms passed.
“When the rain came, it found us,” she says. After six months of weathering storms, and with a growing congregation, Churches Under the Tree provided Sarah’s church with a metal structure. She remembers, “When we got the building, it was so marvelous. We thank God we have a structure.”

Enkonerei Church is now home to a larger congregation, including
30 children. With the help of Churches Under the Tree, they are changing the future of their community.

When Jeffrey and Stefanie Woods began searching for a place to start a Live Dead training center in Africa, they weren't sure where they'd land. But after visiting Mombasa, Kenya, everything lined up. "The Spirit just confirmed it with all of us," they say. "This is really it. This is a perfect place to start." Today it's home to the only Live Dead launch team training center in Africa region, preparing new workers to plant the church among the unreached.

"We have more children than adults in Namibia" shared Pastor Shabani, a children's pastor in the Namibian Assemblies of God. Reaching the next generation isn't a someday goal there, it's the mission right now. In 2025, missionaries Adam and Alecia Fogleman partnered with the national church to host a Vacation Bible School, discipling kids who Shabani says aren't just future church members, but future pastors.

That's the pace the Kenya Assemblies of God is setting as they put up structures for local churches across the country. The Churches Under the Tree project is a partnership between AGWM Africa and the Kenya Assemblies of God building permanent worship structures for congregations who've been meeting under trees...some for over a decade.
