Across Africa, the need for trained, biblically grounded leaders has never been greater — are you ready to help answer the call?

At West Africa Advanced School of Theology in Lomé, Togo, the largest training center on the continent, men and women from 23 countries across West and Central Africa are being equipped to plant churches in some of the most challenging and predominantly Islamic regions in the world.

In Ivory Coast, where a bold vision exists to reach the Muslim north, the urgent need is for trained pastors ready to lead new churches.

And in The Gambia — a predominantly Islamic nation — a Bible school has opened for the very first time, training pastors for church planting among the unreached.
The church is moving. Leaders are being raised up. And there is still room to be part of it.

In places like Ivory Coast and The Gambia, we're looking for missinoaries to walk alongside local leaders to help lead among unreached people groups.

Bongongo heard about a Bible school. So he and his wife started walking.

Through one of the most isolated and dangerous regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo, they made their way on foot — through walking trails and dirt roads with little more than the packs on their backs. Bandits attacked them three times, taking everything they had. Sickness stopped them along the way, and they relied on the kindness of local villagers fto recover before pressing on.

One year later, they arrived.

Bongongo was a passionate student, hungry for God's Word and eager to learn what it meant to shepherd a church. After graduating, he walked back into the rainforest — this time to plant churches.

Amadou had never prayed for his Muslim neighbors. As a pastor in a majority Muslim community, he prayed about them — but never with them. Then everything changed.

During his studies at West Africa Advanced School of Theology, Friday afternoon prayer gatherings for the Muslim world began to stir something in him. He returned home and started a kindergarten open to every family in the community — Christian, Muslim, and pagan alike. Most of that first year's students came from Muslim families.

The school kept growing. Then a nearby majority Muslim village asked if he could do the same for them. Today, ten schools operate across the region, with hundreds of children studying the Bible and praying in the name of Jesus.

A pastor's prayers changed. And a region began to change with them.

MISSIONARY HIGHLIGHT:
For nearly three decades, Bernie and Brenda Smith trained the next generation of church leaders across West and Central Africa.

From the West Africa Advanced School of Theology campus in Lomé to extension centers spread across the region, Bernie taught Bible and Theology to students who would go on to pastor, plant, and lead. Brenda kept the work connected as WAAST's communications coordinator. Together, they served alongside the Togo Assemblies of God — teaching in Bible institutes, ministering in local churches, and helping build tabernacles for new church plants taking root across Togo.

Thirty years of faithfulness. Countless leaders shaped. The fruit of their work will outlast them for generations.

Addis Ababa Bible College in Ethiopia recently celebrated its 29th annual commencement — 213 leaders stepping into a lifetime of ministry.

Among the graduates: 16 with master's degrees, 99 with bachelor's degrees across Amharic, English, and Afaan Oromo tracks, and 98 who completed diploma-level studies through the Discovery Series curriculum. They came from across Ethiopia — from Yirgalem in the Sidama Region to Dire Dawa in the east — and they are now returning to their communities equipped to lead, disciple, and reach the unreached.

This is what Africa's Hope exists to see — local leaders that are spirit empowered, Biblically trained, and ready to multiply the work across Africa.

Healthy churches need trained leaders.

Africa's Hope, a ministry of AGWM Africa, and missionary partners across the continent equip local pastors and church leaders with the theological foundations and ministry tools they need to shepherd their communities well — and to reach beyond them.

Because the goal was never just to plant churches. It's to see a healthy church within walking distance of every African.

Harar, Ethiopia is one of the nation's most historically significant centers of Islam — and home to the unengaged Oromo people of Harar.

AGWM Africa is taking intentional steps to establish a Live Dead-focused church planting team in Harar, positioning this region as a critical next location in the broader Gospel Access strategy. Global workers will serve alongside the national church in a context built for lasting Kingdom impact. Partnership is already growing around this vision.

In late 2025, leaders from the Southern New England Ministry Network visited Ethiopia for in-country prayer, dialogue, and field engagement. Southern New England is now actively mobilizing both resources and missionaries toward the Oromo of Harar. Ethiopia represents a strategic opportunity for sending partners to come together — and make a lasting impact for gospel access among people who have yet to hear.
