In the Amazon region of Peru, stories are everything.

For generations, indigenous communities have passed down knowledge through spoken word. So when the Hendons began Bible trainings in 2018, something shifted. Instead of reading from a printed page, they told the story of Scripture the way these communities have always learned— out loud.

Then an older man named Urusha spoke up. He had followed Jesus for nearly 40 years, helped translate the Bible into the Kandozi language, and even led others to faith. But hearing the gospel told as a story in his heart language, he looked up and said, "Now I understand."

In cultures like these, stories travel. When someone truly understands the story of Jesus, they carry it home— to their families and their villages. This is how the gospel is being advanced in the Amazon.

The Hendons are preparing to move to Arequipa — a city of 1.8 million people in southern Peru that has not had a missionary in nearly 20 years. Their vision is to establish an Oral Bible Training Center there, raising up a new generation of pastors and church leaders who will take the gospel further than they could ever go on their own.

Pray for the people of the Amazon basin and Arequipa are waiting to hear the life-changing message of Jesus in their heart language. 💛

Peru needs your prayers. 🌎🙏
🇵🇪 Pray for political peace — Peru has just elected a new president, but the margin was slim and she is the ninth president in the last ten years. Stability matters for the mission.
🇵🇪 Pray for the unreached in Arequipa. Though the Quichua peoples are officially Roman Catholic, they blend this with their ancient religions. Old gods are given the names of Catholic saints. Mountain spirits, sacrificed animals, and syncretism have replaced the true Gospel for generations. They have religion — but they have never encountered the resurrected Jesus.

Apachetas - Sacred altars and spiritual offerings to Pachamama (mother earth) and the apus (mountain gods)

We saw them in multiple places while in Arequipa, but this one place we visited was covered by them and I was overwhelmed.

Even sitting here typing I'm overwhelmed by the task at hand: to reach a people that are so lost, but have no idea.

Catholicism is the claimed religion, but it is actually a mix of indigenous beliefs and many only attend on special occasions. Very few have a true understanding of who Jesus is and what He did for them.

We have been told that the region is a "graveyard for ministry" due to the spiritual warfare.

We need your finances to get there, but more than ever we need your prayers. 🙏

As many of you know, our original plan was to return to Peru in June, and for that reason we did not book churches past that month in faith that we would be fully funded. Unfortunately, but of no surprise to God, we are not fully funded yet. That just means we still have lots of time to come and share our story with you! 🙌

We can share with your congregation on a Sunday morning, a small group on Tuesday, a Wednesday night crowd, whenever! Just name your time and place.

What are ways you could sacrifice to save up $5/month or maybe even $10, $20, or $25 a month? Maybe you really want to see God do some mathematical miracles and you're willing to surrender $50, $75, or $100 a month? Whatever amount the Lord lays on your heart, if you're obedient, He will provide. We've seen it time and time again.
