I was asked today, “Why do you require every dog adopted from Conrad Canine Rescue & Sanctuary to be returned to you if things don’t work out?”

The answer comes down to two very important words:

Promise and commitment. ❤️🐾

Sometimes adoptions don’t work out. There can be many reasons, and very rarely is it the dog’s fault. Lives change. Circumstances change. Sometimes, despite everyone’s best intentions, a home simply isn’t the right fit.

But when we pull a dog from a euthanasia list, we aren’t just saving that dog for one day.

We are making a promise and a lifelong commitment to them.

We promise that they will never have to face that euthanasia list again.

We give them our love, our time, our patience, and everything we can. We care for them like they are our own until the day comes when we place them into the arms of the family we hope will be their forever family.

But our commitment doesn’t end when they walk out our doors.

Once a Conrad Canine dog, always a Conrad Canine dog.

If something happens and their family can no longer keep them, we want them back. We don’t want them surrendered to another shelter. We don’t want them passed from home to home. And we will do everything in our power to make sure they are never placed on a euthanasia list again.

We looked into their eyes when they had nowhere else to go and made them a promise:

We will fight for you.
We will protect you.
And we will never give up on you.

That isn’t just a policy at Conrad Canine Rescue & Sanctuary.

It is our promise. It is our commitment. And it is for life. ❤️🐾

Dear Friends and Supporters,

This is one of the hardest posts we have ever had to write.

We are scared.

Not for ourselves — we are scared for the dogs who are depending on us to survive.

Every time we look into the eyes of a dog who has been placed on a euthanasia list, we know what is at stake. These are dogs whose time has run out. Dogs who have nowhere else to go. Dogs who may only have hours or days left before a decision is made that can never be undone.

We have always tried to be the rescue that says, “Yes. We will take them. We will figure it out.”

But right now, we are reaching a point where we don’t know how much longer we can keep saying yes.

And that breaks our hearts.

Because the next dog doesn’t understand that we are struggling financially.

They don’t understand that the food bill is getting harder to pay.

They don’t understand veterinary bills, utilities, medications, cleaning supplies, bedding, or bank accounts.

They only know that they want to live.

When we pull a dog from a euthanasia list, we make them a promise.

We promise that they are safe now.

We promise that they will eat.

We promise that they will receive medical care.

We promise that they will never again have to wonder whether someone is coming for them.

And we are terrified of reaching the day when we have to look at another dog who desperately needs us and say:

“I’m sorry. We can’t afford to save you.”

We don’t want that day to come.

That is why we are asking for your help — and why we are asking more desperately than we ever have before.

If you can make a one-time donation, please do. Whether it is $5, $10, $25, $50, or more, it matters.

But today, we are also asking you to please consider becoming a monthly recurring donor.

Even a small recurring donation can change everything for us.

$5 a month.
$10 a month.
$20 a month.
$25 a month.

It may not feel like much, but when enough people make that commitment, it gives us something we desperately need: the security of knowing that when the next dog needs us, there will be money there to help us say YES.

Imagine if 100 people committed to just $10 a month.

That would be $1,000 every month that we could count on for food, medical care, supplies, and the daily expenses of keeping these dogs alive and safe.

We know times are difficult. We know everyone has bills and responsibilities of their own. We would never want anyone to give more than they can afford.

But if you have ever followed our dogs…

If you have ever celebrated when one of them was saved…

If you have ever smiled when one finally found a family…

If you have ever thought, “Thank God someone saved that dog,”…

We are asking you to please help us continue being that someone.

Because behind every happy adoption photo is a dog who first had to survive.

And behind every dog we save is the reality that someone has to help pay for their food, their medicine, their shelter, and their care until their forever family finally comes.

We cannot do this without you.

We are asking.
We are pleading.
Please don’t wait until we are forced to say no.

Please help us now so that when the next terrified dog is sitting on a euthanasia list with nowhere else to turn, we can still say:

“You’re coming with us. You’re safe now.”

Donate or become a recurring monthly donor here:

And if you truly cannot donate, please share this message. Forward it to a friend. Share our fundraiser. Tell someone what we are trying to do.

Sometimes one share reaches the person who makes all the difference.

To everyone who has already donated, fostered, volunteered, adopted, shared our posts, prayed for our dogs, or stood beside us — thank you.

You are the reason so many dogs are still alive today.

We desperately need you to help us make sure there are more tomorrow.

With love and gratitude,

Lauryn Nichols

Dear Lord,

Please watch over our rescue, may all of our dogs find loving homes that are patient, understanding and committed to changing one life for the better. We pray we have the financial means to keep on our mission, and a community who supports us and believes in what we do. Amen🙏🏼
