As Director handling the paperwork, etc., my role with Pets Uniting People Society is straightforward because I am not on the front lines each day, witnessing the effects of animal abuse with dogs or cats.

Although local agencies are increasingly responding to the needs of dogs, cats often receive less attention and support. As a result, many face the harsh reality of homelessness. Pets Uniting People Society (PUPS) steps in to help close that gap.

Creating this brochure was difficult. While many people would prefer to see heartwarming images of pets, the photograph included shows the reality these animals face. When Dottie Smiddy saw this brochure picture, she said, “I see this every day!” The image is heartbreaking, but the suffering it represents is real and cannot be ignored.

PUPS depends on regular sponsorships to meet the animals’ needs throughout the year. You can support this work by:
• Making a one-time donation
• Becoming a monthly sponsor

Our latest blog shares practical ways to provide safe shelter, food, and fresh water; check vehicles before starting them; recognize cats needing intervention; and understand why spaying and neutering remain so important as kitten season winds down.

Get ready to bid on another special “Road Trip” basket, inspired by the heartwarming story of Punch the Monkey. Many of you may remember Punch as the baby monkey who captured hearts after becoming an Internet sensation. After being rejected by his mother and overlooked by the other monkeys, Punch found comfort when a caring zookeeper at the Japan Zoo gave him a toy orangutan to love. That simple act of kindness turned his story from one of loneliness into one that touched people around the world.

My sister followed Punch’s story on the national news and quickly fell in love with him, which makes this basket especially meaningful. In that spirit, we might affectionately call it the “Punch and Judy” basket—a charming package with a story bidders will remember.

This delightful basket is sure to draw attention at the auction. It includes the items below, along with any extra surprises Stacey Picolo, Debbie Wade and their team may add to make it truly stand out. Beautifully designed and ready for the highest bidder, this is a package no animal lover—or road trip fan—will want to miss.

• 4 Cincinnati Zoo General Admission tickets
• An O/N stay at Cincinnati Renaissance Hotel
• A book about Punch
• A Punch stuffed dog toy
