"In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world" (John 16:33). Your first thought in response to this passage might be: 'But how does this pertain to me in overcoming the world with its trials and troubles?' Jesus was letting the disciples know that He would always be available to them for help in overcoming the world as long as they truly knew Him, because He would be abiding within them through His Spirit - the Holy Spirit - to comfort, guide and direct them. And this is still what He would say to us, if He appeared in person to us today. Our victory in overcoming the world today comes from believing and trusting Jesus and His Father's promises found in His Word -the Bible, which speaks to us though His Blessed Spirit. I know all of this might be difficult to grasp, but if and when we seek to know and experience God's availability and presence through a full surrender of our lives to Him through His Son, Jesus Christ, we receive the whole triune God - the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This explains Jesus' promise to His disciples then and to us today: "Take heart and trust me and you will be able to overcome the world, because as He moved forward to overcoming the cross and rejoining His Father in heaven through being resurrected by His Father, where He continues to intercede for us today who know Him, we can "take heart." "Jesus said: 'If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from him'" (John 7:37-38). It doesn't get any plainer than this; that coming to know Jesus Christ makes us a new person, with His spirit living within our spirit. To have God the Son living within us will give us different desires than our flesh desires, which come from the evil one instead of from God. To have all of this we must desire it, and if you don't have such desires ask the Holy Spirit to give them to you so that you can live a life filled with your love for the Lord, and seek to please him in all that you think, say and do. You will never be sorry, and will praise Him throughout eternity. If you already know the difference it makes when you surrender your life to Jesus Christ, you will say A-men to this passage and all I have shared related to it, and be happy that you have found the rivers of living water. "My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one Who speaks to the Father in our defense - Jesus Christ, the righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world" I John 2:1-2). John probably was involved with the initial conversion of those to whom He was writing since he referred to them as little children. He desired his readers to understand that the Father does not want us to continue sinning after we come to know Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, but He also knew that the flesh would continue winning at tines times and that we were responsible to not give in. But we are reminded by John that if and when we do, Jesus Christ is our spokes person, as He reminds the Father that He gave His life so that we can be forgiven when we do sin. This in no way gives us a license to sin, but provides grace to fight the battle between our flesh and spirit. We are also challenged to tell others about God's saving grace through His Son. What a God and Savior Who loves us! Love and prayers.

"The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him" (Nahum 1:7). How do you view God? Do you think of Him as taking all the fun out of life if you become His child? Or, do you think "you can have your cake and eat it too" - in other words, claim to be His child and live as you please? This passage reminds us that the Lord is good, and that we can turn to Him in times of trouble. But it does not stop there. Instead, we are told that He cares for those who trust in Him. So, if you are allowing yourself to believe you are on the right path with God when you are continuing to choose your ways instead of His, you need to re-think your view of God and what it means to be His child. In relationship with Him through His Son, Jesus Christ, you will know Him as good and your refuge in times of trouble. But, It remains true that we must trust Him and believe His Word to experience the care He longs to provide for us. And this will also require seeking to know and please Him. But this will provide us with hope, joy and a sense of His loving Presence when we believe Him to be our caring and loving Heavenly Father. This will provide a true and balanced view of the Creator God that can change our life. Praise His Holy Name! Love and prayers.

"He has showed you, O man what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God" (Micah 6:8). Reading this passage can take a lot of pressure off our souls and minds related to living a life pleasing to the Creator God. Rather than being hard on ourselves and others, we are to do right in our dealings with others, and to respond in a just, and even in a merciful way, if possible, when others do us wrong. This does not mean that we overlook wrong according to God's standards and allow others to disregard His laws. But, we are to strive to walk humbly with our God, because all that we are, have and know comes from faithfully following God and His ways and paths as we journey through this life. And He has left us His Word, and given us His Spirit, so that we have no excuse when it comes to knowing what He requires of us. A relationship with His Son, Jesus Christ, makes a pleasing relationship with God possible, so that we can follow His ways and enjoy His love and mercy. Praise His Name! Love and prayers.

"Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable His judgments, and His paths beyond tracing out! (Romans 11:33). Have you begun your goal of learning more and more about the Lord God, Creator of heaven and earth? Do you have the desire it requires to get to know Him, follow Him and trust Him with your every care and need? And plus what it takes to please Him so that you become a child of His that He takes delight in? I have posed a lot of questions that this passage can create; but, it will pay rich dividends to search for the wisdom and knowledge of God and His unsearchable judgments, as well as the paths that He does share with us in His Word and through His blessed Spirit. I highly suggest that you take this passage and get on your knees, asking God for the desire to know Him and His ways that can bring you into a loving and trusting relationship with Him. His Son, Jesus Christ lived and died that you might have this relationship and knowledge of His Father that can be known through Him and His death on Calvary's cross. Set your goal today for this if you have not already. It will be worth your time and search! Love and prayers.

"Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lord's unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts in Him" (Psalm 32:10). This passage goes straight to the point of the truth related to those who do not love the Lord and as a result suffer many woes or troubles they bring on themselves. But when we flip the coin, and either know from experience, or need the information; the Lord's unfailing love surrounds those who trust in Him. So, it comes down to living life our way; or, choosing to trust God and surrendering to His love, will and ways and enjoying His unfailing love as we make our journey through life. It appears plain to me which choice is the better one, and that is trusting God's Word and living life God's way. If you have not already found this true through coming to know His Son as your Lord and Savior, then I suggest that you take that leap of faith and enjoy His unfailing love forever. Love and prayers.

"Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn..." (Psalm 37:4-6). This is a very inspiring passage, but it is not saying, as a child of God, that you can expect life to be a "rose garden." Instead, it is prefaced by the condition that we must first "delight ourselves in the Lord" and as a result our desires are changed to please Him. In this way He can fulfill His promise of giving us the desires of our heart. We are to commit our ways to Him, trust Him and we can expect to become righteous and it will light the paths of those around us -guiding them into the paths of righteousness. But first must come the desire for all of this. If you have not already committed your ways to the Lord, you must begin by doing so, and then trust Him to carry out the promises of this passage. Seek Him through His Son and He can be found. This passage should encourage you to do this and to lead a life of delighting yourself in the Lord God of heaven and earth. Love and prayers.
