Watch the ears. They're the dashboard on a mule.

Ears up and locked forward, he's studying whatever's in front of him. Give him a minute — he's doing the math. An ear pinned back at you means your ask got louder than your invitation. Back off the pressure and ask smaller. Ears swinging loose side to side, he's thinking, not frozen. That's the good stuff.

Most folks reach for more pressure when they ought to reach for more patience. The ears told you everything before your hand ever moved.

Remember: your mule is never wrong. All he knows how to do is be a mule.

I have a feral mom cat that I can’t get. I did catch 2 of her kittens outside because they had a respiratory virus. This kitten I just caught, it was eating and I grabbed it knowing it would bloody my hand. It did but I had to get it. It won’t let me near him, took this picture by zooming 😻😺
