That’s a wrap on our two-day Kitchen Safety Class in partnership with the City of Detroit!

Over the past two days, our participants have had the opportunity to learn valuable kitchen safety techniques and explore ways to become more confident and independent in the kitchen.

A special thank you to the City of Detroit, Rise Higher, and Chosen Generation Community Center for their partnership and support in helping make this learning experience possible!

At the Greater Detroit Agency for the Blind and Visually Impaired, we believe independence doesn’t end with vision loss. Sometimes, it’s just about learning a different way to get things done!

Today kicked off the first of our two-day Kitchen Safety Class in partnership with the City of Detroit!

Our participants are learning important kitchen safety skills, building confidence, and discovering ways to make cooking safer and more accessible for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

It’s all about independence, safety, and knowing that vision loss doesn’t mean you have to stop doing the things you enjoy!

We’re excited to see what tomorrow brings!

The best adaptive tool in the kitchen isn’t a gadget. It’s knowledge.

Knowing how to safely use a knife, to measure ingredients accurately, to organize a workspace and prepare a meal with confidence.

It goes beyond getting a snack from the pantry. It’s making something truly satisfying, to share with a loved one or to get you through the day.

GDABVI’s Kitchen Safety Training Program helps Detroit residents who are blind or visually impaired develop practical skills that make everyday cooking safer, easier, and more accessible.

Participants learn techniques for meal preparation, food handling, kitchen organization, and the safe use of common appliances and tools.

When knowledge meets opportunity, independence follows.
