These two. They pretend not to, but they absolutely love each other & it’s hard to believe that without adoption, they wouldn’t have ever even known one another.

November is National Adoption Awareness Month & I hope people can physically see how it has changed our lives for the better; but I also want you to know that as much as I love adoption, I don’t believe it was ever the way things were meant to be, families were never intended to be broken & I’ll never take my role as one of their mommas for granted because of this.

Walking this road hasn’t been easy; it’s full of hardships & grief—but these two, they make every bit of the hard worth it.

If you want to know more about fostering or adoption from foster care, ask me or ask another adoptive parent. I know most of us are more than willing to walk alongside you in this journey to becoming a foster family or choosing adoption for one of the 100,000+ kids waiting for a forever family in the United States foster care system.

45 minutes of dangling was a success. One more dangle tomorrow for an hour and he will be good to ”dangle” (1 hour at most) as often as he wants as long as he immediately elevates it for however long it was dangling.

Plastics came by today and gave us a more detailed plan for home. Monday morning will be his last procedure under anesthesia for a while. They will put him under to take out his wound vac (as long as everything still looks free of infection) and put him in a sturdy plastic cast with Velcro so we can take it off once a day and change his dressings. The stitches in his flap site are all internal except for one small stitch and so they don’t have to remove that. Monday will be a day of wound care training and they will monitor him for 24 hours to make sure he does well with being off of everything. Then we can head home Tuesday morning(ish)! We will have a follow up appointment the Tuesday after thanksgiving to give us the go ahead to meet with ortho to begin developing a plan for putting weight on that foot and what protocols to follow with PT to slowly begin the process of walking. From what we are being told it will still be another 6 weeks before we can begin that.

The skin on his leg and foot should be healed in the next two weeks and at that point we won’t have to change dressings and he can return to school and somewhat of a normal life (via wheelchair and walker)!

As overwhelming as all of that is, we are just thankful to hear that progress has been made and that we are headed in the right direction.

We are so ready to be all back together at home just in time for Thanksgiving. It’s what all of our hearts (and mommy and daddy’s backs *thanks hospital couch ”bed”*) need and want!

Counting down the days, hours and minutes.

Thank you all for your love and prayers. We still have quite a bit more obstacles to overcome. But we know this is all temporary. So proud of our boy for getting this far.

Do you need help taking care of a loved one but wish to do it in the comfort of your home? We can help.
American Care Services, Inc. is a Home Care Organization (HCO) providing non-medical in-home care. Whether your loved one needs assistance due to a short-term or long-term disability or illness, needs personal care or assistance with daily living activities, or simply needs a companion, you can count on us to find the right caregiver that meets your loved one’s needs.
As an HCO, American Care Services does not simply refer caregivers to clients. We employ caregivers and send them to the home of our clients to provide in-home care. We understand that not all clients have the same needs, so we take into consideration the unique needs of our clients and devote our attention to matching those needs with the right care plan and right person to provide care.
Instead of directly employing a caregiver, let us do it for you! With American Care Services, you do not have to face the challenges of recruiting, doing a background check, hiring, handling payroll, and complying with all the regulatory requirements applicable to employers because we do all the work for you. Our caregivers go through a thorough screening process to ensure they are capable, dependable, and trustworthy. You can trust us to provide excellent care because we always put our clients’ satisfaction first.
So when you are faced with the question of whether to directly hire a caregiver or use the services of a home care agency, choose not just any home care agency – choose American Care Services.

My Charlie boy. You were an unexpected surprise to our family & today makes 5 years since we sat in that courtroom & you became forever a part of us. The things you have taught me as a mom & as a person, the ways you have changed my life, oh & the adventures we’ve had & the ones I can’t wait to have with you; I am so lucky to be one of your mommas, I cannot imagine for even a second missing any of this with you.
