Two things happening at our thrift stores this week.

Freaky Friday, October 16. 30% off at all seven locations.

Trunk or Treat, October 17. All locations, 5 to 7 PM. Bring the kids.

Some people carve pumpkins this month. We're suggesting you carve out some garage space.

That car that hasn't started since spring? Donate it. We handle pickup and the paperwork, you get a tax deduction, and the value goes straight into housing for veterans, independence for seniors, and support for Michigan families.

A lot of people know us for one thing.

Maybe it's the thrift stores. Maybe it's Operation Backpack. Maybe you drove past one of our housing communities and didn't know it was ours.

Here's the rest of it:

Affordable housing for seniors who want to stay independent
Transitional housing and support for veterans
Mental health and peer support through our SERV program
Help for families getting back on their feet
Seven thrift stores funding all of it

All of it in Michigan. All of it staffed by people who live here.

This picture says it all.

Adopt-a-Family adoptions open today. Here's how it works: you're matched with a Michigan family, veteran, or senior who needs a little help with the holidays. You get their wish list, you shop for them, you drop the gifts off with us. That's it.

Last year, a woman named Carol adopted the Barnett family. Here's what they said after:

"To Miss Carol and her husband, thank you so very much for being so kind. God bless you forever and always!"

If you've ever watched a live seller work and thought "I could do that," this one's for you.

We're hiring a Live Seller Manager to run our thrift live-selling business. You'd be the one on camera, hosting shows, building an audience, and finding the pieces worth featuring. As it grows, you'd build and coach the team behind it.

What we're looking for: someone confident on camera, genuinely good with people, and organized enough to run the whole operation behind the scenes. Sales experience helps. Thrift or resale experience is a bonus. Evening and weekend availability is a must.

Every sale supports housing for veterans, independence for seniors, and programs for Michigan families. Not a bad thing to be good at.

Throwback Thursday, 1964 edition.

That's the year VOA Michigan opened our first thrift store in Detroit. The idea was simple: donated goods became affordable essentials for the community, and what the store earned went back into our programs.

Sixty-two years later, we have seven stores running on that exact same model. Every shirt, every lamp, every Half Off Tuesday haul still goes to housing for veterans, independence for seniors, and support for Michigan families.

One good idea, still working.
