Finding the right fit takes time.

HomeShare Vermont screens and interviews participants and facilitates a trial period to help hosts and guests determine whether a potential match works for them.

Once a match is made, that support doesn't end. HomeShare Vermont case managers stay connected with hosts and guests throughout the homesharing experience, providing ongoing guidance and support.

Sometimes, a match simply isn’t the right fit. If that happens, your case manager can help determine next steps and explore other options.

In FY26, 364 Vermonters found their match with HomeShare Vermont: creating 242 housing units.

By homesharing, hosts and guests can create arrangements that work for both of them — including opportunities to exchange help around the home for reduced or no rent.

It’s one way HomeShare Vermont is helping make housing more accessible while making use of the space already available in our communities.

Bess O’Brien’s new documentary, Every Day: Big and Small, celebrates Vermonters who are creating community and positive change through everyday acts.

Two of those Vermonters are Nancy and Khawar, who found connection by sharing a home through HomeShare Vermont.

Their story is a wonderful example of what homesharing can make possible: bringing people together across backgrounds and generations while making better use of the space we already have.
