Five inductees. Five different stories. One lasting impact on Halifax County sports. ❤️💙

The 2026 Induction Ceremony was about more than accomplishments, championships, records, or years of service. It was about the people who inspired and supported our inductees along the way, and how Woody Bane, Jimmy Clay, Kenneth Day, Nick Long, and Melanie Saunders have taken that influence and used it to impact generations of others.

We are proud to welcome these five into the Halifax County-South Boston Sports Hall of Fame and even prouder of the legacy they represent.

What a special night celebrating the Halifax County-South Boston Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2026!

As we listened to each of our inductees share their stories, one theme continued to stand out: IMPACT. The people who inspired them, motivated them, supported them, and helped shape their success. And now, the impact they have made on so many others by giving back, leading, coaching, encouraging, and simply being there.

That is what legacy is all about.

Today is the day! 🏆

Tonight we officially welcome Woody Bane, Jimmy Clay, Kenneth Day, Nick Long, and Melanie Saunders into the Halifax County-South Boston Sports Hall of Fame!

We can’t wait to hear their stories, spend some time with them, and celebrate all they have contributed to sports in our community.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the Meet & Greet from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. and the Induction Ceremony beginning at 7:00 p.m. Come celebrate the Class of 2026 with us!

Tonight, our Class of 2026 inductees were introduced before the Halifax County High School varsity football game. We appreciate our partnership with the HCHS Athletic Department and their help recognizing this special group!

The 2026 Halifax County-South Boston Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is this Saturday, September 26, at American Legion Post 8 in South Boston!

We will welcome Woody Bane, Jimmy Clay, Kenneth Day, Nick Long, and Melanie Saunders into the Hall of Fame. The evening will also include special recognition of previous inductees Willie Lanier, Tisha Waller, and Harvey Dillard and their contributions to sports.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m., the Meet & Greet is from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., and the ceremony begins at 7:00 p.m.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at True Value, the South Boston Halifax County Visitors Center, Peddlers Market, Abbott Farm Suppliers, Fincher’s, or from any Hall of Fame Board Member.
