The Green Streets Initiative Green Streets Initiative is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has promoted active transportation across Massachusetts since 2006.

Green Streets Initiative helps people shift trips to healthier, more affordable, more fun alternatives — and measures the impact, trip by trip, community by community Shift Your Summer is an 8-week active transportation challenge, open to anyone in Massachusetts, that encourages people to walk, bike, and ride transit all summer long. The Shift app automatically detects active trips — no manual logging — and participants build streaks, unlock achievements, rise through status tiers, and become eligible for prizes.

Halloween Family Bike Ride, Sun Oct 18: Allston, 9:30 AM, 0.7 miles from Mellone Park with bike-to-bike trick-or-treating (free, register ahead)

Sat, Oct 24: Tour de Streets, LivableStreets' yearly fundraiser in Central Square, Cambridge. A guided bike ride or a transportation history walk at 11, then a celebration.

Sun, Oct 25: Ride For Your Life Boston. A 6-mile ride or 1-mile walk from Boston Common to the State House to remember people lost in traffic crashes and push for safer streets. Free to register.

Apply online, or at the Charlie Service Center (296 Washington St, Boston) for a temporary card the same day. Worth sharing with a parent or neighbor.

The Cambridge Community Development Department is running a Rules of the Road workshop for new riders, 6 to 7 PM at the Valente Branch Library.
