Green Streets Initiative helps people shift trips to healthier, more affordable, more fun alternatives — and measures the impact, trip by trip, community by community Shift Your Summer is an 8-week active transportation challenge, open to anyone in Massachusetts, that encourages people to walk, bike, and ride transit all summer long. Shift is here. 🎉

We built Shift to do one thing: get more of Massachusetts walking, biking, and riding transit — and have some fun doing it. Inspired by Bologna's Bella Mossa, it turns your everyday walks and rides into badges and bragging rights, automatically.

To kick things off, we're running Shift Your Summer (June 15–Aug 15): a free sweepstakes with $5,000+ in prizes, headlined by a Segway MUXI e-bike. Every walk and ride you take with Shift this summer is an entry.

Carnaval is back in East Somerville — Sunday, June 7, 2–6 PM on Broadway!

Planning your trip? We made a wayfinding map to help you get there by bike, transit, or on foot, plus a full directory of the restaurants, cafés, and shops worth checking out along the way.

Heads up: the 89, 90, and 101 buses are detoured 11 AM–8 PM during the festival, so map your route before you head out.

Find your way there:

It was a beautiful day at the City of Everett Transportation Fair today, just off the amazing Northern Strand path. Great to connect with Bike to the Sea, MassBike, MassDOT, CargoB and others.

And thanks to Landry's Bicycles for the tune-up, and The Well Coffee House for the iced coffee!

Twenty years ago, Janie Katz-Christy started something in a Cambridge school that grew into a movement.

Green Streets Initiative has inspired thousands to rethink how they get around — through Walk/Ride Days, community challenges, and a belief that healthier transportation makes healthier communities.

Now Janie steps into a new role as Founder Emeritus, and we're celebrating everything she's built.

Join us at in Somerville on Tuesday, May 27, 5:30–8:30 PM. Drinks (beer, hard seltzer, and non-alcoholic options) are on us.

Dinner is available from Aeronaut's resident food vendors: Carolicious (Venezuelan) and Mimi's Chuka Diner (Japanese-Chinese).

After twenty years of leading Green Streets Initiative, Janie Katz-Christy is transitioning from Executive Director to Founder Emeritus — and we'd love for you…
