The Welcome Project The Welcome Project builds immigrants' power to participate in and shape their communities. Programs for Youth
Liaison Interpreter Program of Somerville (LIPS).

The Welcome Project builds the collective power of Somerville immigrants to participate in and shape community decisions. We do this through programs that strengthen the capacity of immigrant youth, adults and families to advocate for themselves and influence schools, government, and other institutions. Trains bilingual Somerville teens to assist with language interpretation at community events an

d meetings. Programs for Adults
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) offers accessible and friendly classes in English. The classes are designed to not only help our students improve their English language skills, but also to provide opportunities to engage in the civic life of the city. English for Parents Program (EFP). The Welcome Project works with parents of school-aged youth to help them engage with their children's education and advocate for themselves and their children in the schools.

YUM 2026 wouldn't have happened without our amazing staff and volunteers. Thank you!! We're also grateful to Kathleen Portillo, Alex Pirie, and Warren Goldstein-Gelb for sharing their powerful experiences with The Welcome Project's LIPS program and reminding us of the real impact interpretation services have on immigrant families every day.

YUM 2026 had a soundtrack to match its spirit! We were treated to the joyful sounds of .hear a group of violin and piano students of all ages learning and creating together, and the music of Tania Chamán and CuraSon, whose performances beautifully tell the story of the modern Latino experience.
