Around Hear

Around Hear A free chamber music series and education program in Somerville, MA.

Meet new friends, listen to music, enjoy some tasty goodies, and (if you want) quietly make art, write, and move. Around Hear is a partnership between the Somerville Housing Authority, the Mystic Learning Center, the Mystic Tenants Association, and an evolving group of classical musicians to create a regular time and space for people from a wide spectrum of life experiences to gather and listen with openness, depth, and creativity—to music, to themselves, and to each other.

Come join us for a concert of music so uplifting, you might find yourself flying around the room. Between musical flights of joy by Telemann and Beethoven, we will be sharing a set of songs from our evolving "Superdoves!" project: a combination adventure novel+song cycle. And exciting news: besides having two incredible human guest musicians joining us for this program, Flappy the Pigeon will be on hand (literally) to teach us all about her magnificent but often misunderstood species.

PROGRAM
Prelude by the Around Hear All-Ages Violin & Piano Classes

Georg Philipp Telemann – Fantasia No. 7 in E-flat Major for Solo Violin

Selections from "Superdoves!" a song cycle for voice & piano, with lyrics by Marji Gere & music by Dan Sedgwick, accompanied by cantastoria and Flappy the pigeon

Ludwig van Beethoven – Piano Trio in B-flat Major, Op. 97, "Archduke"

PERFORMERS
Will Green, tenor
Marji Gere, violin, cantastoria & puppetry
Adrienne Taylor, cello
Dan Sedgwick, piano

Performances will also be shared with Somerville Housing Authority residents at Brady Towers and Bryant Manor.
