So.. it's been a minute! I'm still here.. but I am Service dogless 🙁. I have had some adventures in good and not so good breeders while finding my next SDIT. Jasmine, my German Shepherd from Von Wards Kennel was limping and not using her hind left leg after exercise by 1 yr old.. you guessed it, hip dysplasia. I retired her from training at 18 mos. Yes, 18 mos of SD training for nothing. Jasmine is now a very valued part of our family and has transitioned into a happy farm helper.
I continued my search.. and without the funds for a well bred Dane pup.. I did something I don't recommend.. but.. I did it..lol.. I went to look at a Craigslist puppy... Enter Fiona! This crazy Dane, heavily influenced by the sight hound side of the gene pool , super silly baby girl! Fiona is a great worker, loves to train and do just about anything.... but.. she is absolutely terrified of people... so sad... so definitely not a SD prospect... I can say she is such a character she has helped heal my heart from all the losses.
I am currently on the waiting list for a Spring puppy with Royal House of Danes. I am hoping for a boy pup this time. Boomer is doing fantastic and Fiona is his annoying but lovable friend 🤓. When I have to leave Boomer home he has a buddy now.. and that really helps us both.
I will update when I have any news. My upcoming SD prospect will be trained w PSAZ and I will post his arrival and then progress w his adventures as a SDIT ❤🐾
What happened with Boomer?
This the 1st time I have ever had this happen w a male dog. Boomer lost all of his confidence after being neutered at 2yrs old. I spent the next 3yrs trying to help him get his confidence back.. to no avail. Boomer loves to work and still helps me at home all the time. .
I officially retired him at 5... a huge heartbreak for both of us.
