On June 19th, we join communities across the country in recognizing Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States.

In 1865, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued, word of freedom finally reached the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas. Juneteenth stands as a powerful reminder of the strength, resilience, and contributions of Black Americans throughout history.

Use the library's resources to learn about and reflect on this important day. Stop by and check out print materials, or use our online resources to explore ebooks, films, and stories, that honor Black voices, history, heritage, contributions, and culture.
