Friends of PLJCS is a non-profit focused on bringing public attention & fundraising for the Public Library of Johnston County & Smithfield.

We raise funds to help support the library's programs and other needs as they arise.

Our Spring book sale starts Wednesday, May 6th. 1-5 pm for the general public. 10 am - 1 pm MEMBERS ONLY Preview (can join at the door). Sale runs next Wednesday through Saturday (May 6-9, 2026)

We have a great selection of books. Books are organized. Non-fiction is sorted by subject. Fiction, Young Adult and Large Print are organized alphabetically by author. Bring your shopping list and we will be happy to help you find your book.

There is a HUGE selection of children's books, audiobooks and DVDs.

We accept cash, credit and debit.

Resellers are welcome. Please bring your own boxes or bags and be respectful toward other shoppers and the books.

Money raised is used to support the Public Library of Johnston County & Smithfield.

The Friends of the Public Library appreciates our library staff. They go above and beyond! We try to show that we notice their hard work with a treat once a month.

Every Thursday is BOGO day at the Friends book sale area located across from the circulation desk. Shelves are refreshed once a week.

Did you know that the Friends has a mini book sale area right across from the circulation desk?
One of our board members does a great job rotating stock every week. We have adult fiction & non-fiction, young adult, large print and children's books. Next to the shelves are our mass market paperback rotating stands. Books can be purchased at the Circulation Desk and all funds go to FriendsPLJCS to support our library.

Our Friends Book Sale is being held this week. Funds are used to support the Public Library of Johnston County & Smithfield. We hope to see you there!
