For the first time ever, STEM, a couch-to-5k running program for those directly and indirectly impacted by DV/intimate partner violence, is bringing its program to students and employees of a local college for the spring 2024 session. We’re looking for volunteers to serve as coaches/running mentors. This program will be gender-inclusive, and we’re expanding our coaching/running mentor ranks to all genders. Interested in volunteering one night a week for 10 weeks? Here’s what to know:
⚫️You don’t have to have coaching experience to join. We’re looking for runners of all speeds to run along with participants and provide encouragement during the couch-to-5K training sessions.
⚫️The volunteer commitment is one night per week (approximately an hour) for 10 weeks starting in mid February, as well as the volunteer orientation and goal race (late April/early May).
⚫️We’ll host a required volunteer training session via Zoom on January 22 at 5:30 p.m. that will provide advice on coaching and information on DV/intimate partner violence.
⚫️We don’t provide specifics on training times/dates/locations publicly to ensure the safety of participants, but the sessions will be held on weeknights (early evening) in Albany.
⚫️Volunteer coaches must agree to a criminal background check.
