Our Día de Los Mu***os celebration is always so special. It’s a holiday that combines nature and history, love and tradition. We learn about the monarch migration and the monarchs’ central importance to the day, and plant our own monarch butterflies to represent those we love and hold close to our hearts. It’s beautiful and joyful and so uplifting to hear about all the wonderful people our community holds close to its heart ♥️🦋

Happy Halloween from BCS! It’s always so fun to see everyone all dressed up in spooky or silly or super costumes! Our butterflies and unicorns and spiders and hot dogs had a great time parading for each other and (tree) trunk-or-treating in the woods. And we can’t wait to watch our jack-o’-lanterns turn back into soil — and see if any of their seeds sprout in the spring!

We had an amazingly successful fall work day this weekend! Thank you so much to our students, alumni, parents, and board members who showed up … that was the FASTEST mulch has ever been moved! And a huge thank you to the Bethlehem Central Boys Volleyball modified team for your hard work! Many hands make light work, and many strong arms make FAST work, even for heavy jobs. We’re so grateful to be part of such a supportive community — we couldn’t do it without you! 💚💪🏼

It’s and we were lucky to have a visit from our friends at Slingerlands Fire Department, especially our favorite, Mr. Ken! Thank you so much for showing us your cool truck, teaching us about fire safety, and working so hard to keep us all safe. When we hear a siren at school we say “thank you to the helpers!” … it’s always nice to get to say thank you face-to-face! ❤️🚒🧯🧑🏼‍🚒👩🏽‍🚒👨🏻‍🚒

Gifts from the garden … not only was this sunflower amazing and impressive to look at (it topped out over ten feet tall!!!), but now that it’s dried it’s an amazing sensory bin tool, too! Strengthening little hands and giving fun, real-world opportunities to practice fine motor skills. Some of the seeds will end up in artwork, some in feeders for our animal friends, and some we’ll save to plant next year! The gift that keeps on giving 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻

Big excitement at school today — this monarch butterfly emerged from his chrysalis and hung out for a few hours while his wings dried! Monarchs go through a few generations over the summer, but this guy and his pals who are born around now are the generation that fly all the way to Mexico for the winter — and fly back in the spring! Good thing we have lots of native fall-blooming flowers around so they can take a couple of days to fuel up on nectar before heading to the skies! Fly safe, mariposa! Enjoy Mexico! Hasta primavera! 🧡🤍🧡🖤🧡

Hooray for Bodies in Motion class! Specials started up this week, and our hearts are pumping! All of our students go to seven specials over the course of the week: Library, Art, Music, STEAM, Bodies in Motion, Growing, and Friday Celebrations. Plus we get bonus visits from Happy Scherer and the most fantastic furry friends around! Specials are a great supplement to the learning happening in our classrooms and a whole lot of fun. Is it too early to start training for the Turkey Trot?!

What a fantastic first day! Playing with old friends, meeting new ones, practicing finding cubbies and walking together, whipping up a few mud pies, and, of course, splashing in puddles. This is BCS after all! We’re off to a great start and so excited about the year ahead!
