Last Thursday, we gathered for the GroundWorks Connect Discovery Gardens Tour, sharing stories of plant growth, student growth, and the impact of hands-on learning. 🌻

What made the day even more special was witnessing the amazing collaboration among the garden owners. Together, we are growing more than gardens—we are growing opportunities, relationships, and brighter futures for our young people.

Small gardens. Big dreams. Amazing people. 💚

It is Discovery Gardens Tour Day!
You can attend one, some or all the garden tours.

Directions for today’s garden tour:

4:30pm – Axtell Park School
Address: Axtell Park Building is located at 201 N. West Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD 57104.
Directions: The garden is in a courtyard inside the building. Go to Door D on the northwest side of the building and you will gain access.

5:20pm -Whittier Middle School
Address: Whittier Middle School is located at 930 E 6th St, Sioux Falls, SD 57103.
Directions: We will meet at the gardens on the south side of the school.

6:00pm – DakotAbilities
Address: The address for DakotAbilities is 1116 S 4th Ave, Sioux Falls, SD 57105.
Directions: Meet at the garden beds on the east side of the building.

6:40 – Camp Leif Ericson
Address: The address for YMCA Camp Leif Ericson is 2301 E 26th St, Sioux Falls, SD 57103.
Directions: Near I-229 and 26th Street. Follow the road and our signs to the back of the property.

GroundWorks Connect Caravan – Thursday, September 17

The GroundWorks Connect Caravan is happening Thursday, September 17, as we visit four special locations throughout Sioux Falls!

Caravan Schedule:

4:30 p.m. – Axtell Park Middle School
5:20 p.m. – Whittier Residents Association School
6:00 p.m. – DakotAbilities
6:40 p.m. – Leif Erickson Camp

One of the highlights of our evening will be a visit to the Kathy Grimmius Memorial Garden at DakotAbilities. This special garden will be a meaningful part of our journey and is pictured below.

Join us for one, several or all of the gardens. We look forward to traveling together, connecting with our community, and celebrating the people and places that make GroundWorks teaching gardens special!

It is that time of year! Time to get a little CRUNCH in a big way from garden produce. The South Dakota Crunch Off is an annual statewide celebration of local foods and farm-to-school efforts. During the Crunch Off, September 14-October 31, we challenge every South Dakotan to eat or take a big “crunch” into a South Dakota-grown fruit, vegetable, nut, seed, popcorn, or meat that are either grown or raised locally.
