“Another Charge for Hybrid FFVs” in Ethanol Producer Magazine features ACE's project where Ron Lamberty traveled over 40,000 miles in a hybrid electric flex-fuel vehicle affectionately named HEFF.

The goal was to find out how low the real-world, on-road emissions could be for a hybrid electric vehicle when that hybrid’s internal combustion engine—and the source of its battery charge—was powered by high ethanol blends, namely E85.

ACE today urged EPA to swiftly finalize its proposal to reallocate all 770 million RINs resulting from the actual 2025 exempted RVO.

Testifying before EPA, ACE CEO Brian Jennings expressed strong support for the Agency reallocating all 770 million RINs to provide “greater certainty to market participants” and “support the statutory purpose of the RFS to increase blending year-over-year and help drive demand for E15 and E85.”

EPA is accepting comments through December 4, and ACE will be participating in the rulemaking to ensure these volumes are fully and appropriately reallocated.

ACE urges EPA to swiftly finalize its proposal to reallocate all 770 million RINs resulting from the actual 2025 exempted RVO to the 2027 RFS.

The bimonthly trade publication will examine the diverse trends and challenges shaping the future of the ethanol industry, from innovations in low-carbon production to policy and regulatory priorities under the new Congress. ACE's newest team member Ben Rhodes says that, like many others, he didn’t find ethanol – ethanol found him.

"My ethanol story is still being written, but the first chapter is closing as I transition from the Nebraska Ethanol Board to the American Coalition for Ethanol. I can’t wait to see what’s next."

EPA has proposed reallocating RFS volumes waived through SREs for the 2025 compliance year. The proposal follows EPA’s August 31 announcement on 34 pending 2025 SRE petitions, which resulted in 1.76 billion RINs being exempted for 29 small refineries. EPA had previously projected approximately 990 million RINs would be exempted for 2025. EPA has proposed reallocating 100% of that difference to the 2026 and 2027 RFS obligations.

“We appreciate EPA following through on its commitment to address the additional RFS volumes waived through 2025 SREs and proposing to reallocate the full difference between projected and actual exempted volumes. Every gallon of renewable fuel displaced by an SRE represents lost demand for American ethanol, lost value for farmers and a missed opportunity to lower fuel costs for consumers."
