What will be new this afternoon at the Grant County Art Guild Gallery? Fresh mosaic work by Jo Thomas, including a 5.5' tall freestanding sunflower mosaic on a large rock base!

This impressively sized piece will POP in the sun, as the centers of the sunflowers are copper backed glass.The frame is hand hammered copper. The back is steel for stability. It may be displayed outdoors year round. Local delivery is available. (Ask for the artist contact info on purchase)

In addition to the freestanding piece, Jo will bring in three small (about 6") summer flower pieces. One steel Zia ,and two copper framed charmers. Little spots of color --perfect for gifts or anywhere you want a bit of cheer.

The Grant County Art Guild Gallery is located at 316 N Bullard, Silver City, NM. The gallery carries the work of 34 local artists, working in a variety of mediums and styles. Hours are 10am-5pm, seven days a week.

OPEN CALL FOR ART! 2026 Creatures of the Gila art exhibition, opening Labor Day weekend at the Grant County Art Guild Studio, 307 N Texas, Silver City, NM. Deadline for entry is July 15. Prizes will be awarded--Best of Show $250. For details, download the entry form at gcag.org. You do not need to be a Guild member to enter.

In this annual show, all entries represent, or are inspired by, “creatures” (mammals, fish, birds, reptiles and insects) that live in the Gila River watershed. A description of the actual creature on which the work is based is displayed with each piece, so the show draws those who love wildlife art AND those who want to learn more about wildlife in the Gila.

Opening reception for "Creatures 2026" is Sept 4, 4-7pm during September's First Friday art walk. Show dates are Sept 5-7 & 11-13.

International Music Day encourages public, live music. The Grant County Art Guild is joining in with a sound circle at Gough Park, a music themed make and take at the gallery, and live music in the afternoon at the gallery. Drop by either (or all events) and enjoy music with your friends.

June is Clay Festival Month and the Grant County Art Guild Gallery has showcased clay artists JUDY MENEFEE and LIZZIE SLEGEIR in their front window displays.

Lizzie has a great selection of functional work at the gallery. Some of her most popular pieces include large, comfortable mugs with whimsical cats. Judy Menefee's work is Mimbres inspired and includes both functional and decorative pieces. BOTH Lizzie and Judy have earrings in their gallery displays!! And for those of you who LOVE local, both Lizzie and Judy are local artists, and their clay is New Mexico sourced.

We LOVE getting a peek into our artists' creative process, and GCAG Gallery artist Soña Holman just shared a work in progress photo with us! 🎉

All of the works in the photo are in progress (including the ones in back). The piece in the foreground has an acetate cutout placed on it. The cutout is of the shape in her drawing that is propped up on the background pieces. She will use that as a sort of guiding “template” when she layers color onto the wood burn.

Soña uses a burn and printing technique to create what she calls Pyrographic Paintings, sometimes layering them with paint and venetian plaster. Her Pyrographic Paintings explore the nature of change, the natural realm and the psyche, while cultivating a sense of mystery in abstracted form.

This is such a lovely little painting that we just had to share it. Artist Diane Cornelius added it to her display this weekend, and it is one of our new favorites. The title is Canyon Road and it is only 9 x 11.
