This annual celebration creates space for education, joy, reflection, and unity while commemorating the historical significance of Juneteenth. Families, local organizations, and community members are invited to gather for entertainment, line dancing, community organization vendors, food, and meaningful connection at Martha Lake County Park. West Papuan culture heritage is under threat
Today, land is taken through development.
Culture is erased through displacement.
And Indigenous people are pushed aside for profit.
More than 100,000 West Papuans are displaced.
Hundreds of thousands have been killed.
The third largest rainforests on the planet are being destroyed.

Last May, West Papua Campaign USA participated in AANHPI Heritage Month across communities in Washington.
These spaces were more than cultural celebrations. They became places to reconnect with our identity, share our stories, and stand alongside our Pasifika brothers and sisters.
Through each gathering, we strengthened our commitment to reclaiming our heritage, uplifting West Papuan voices, and continuing to advocate for justice.
As we celebrate who we are, we also remain grounded in the reality that our culture, our land, and our people continue to face ongoing challenges.
Our work continues through awareness, connection, and solidarity.
We are not Indonesian
We are West Papuan.

Bringing the island to the mainland
Last Saturday, we gathered at Moana Garden, a Melanesian-led community garden in Redmond, WA.
What brought us together was simple, but what we felt went much deeper.
As we placed our hands in the soil, something shifted.
Many of us felt it. Memories of home.
Of our villages.
Of growing our own food.
Of living close to the land and surrounded by our people.
For a moment, we weren’t just here.
We returned.

Deep appreciation to for giving us this space.
A space for West Papuans & our Pasifika community to reconnect, grow, and feel grounded again.

We also honor the Indigenous peoples of this land,
who have cared for it and protected it long before us.

Spending time with the soil, growing food, and being together helps us care for our mental well-being, stay rooted in our culture, and feel closer to home even while we’re far away.

This Saturday, join us as we officially begin planting at Moana Garden. Moana Garden is a Pasifika community garden led by West Papua Campaign USA, created to support our Pasifika family here in Washington State. Helping our community reconnect to our grounded and humble island way of life, where we stay close to the land and connected with nature.
This space is not only for the West Papuan community in the Northwest, but also for all our Pasifika brothers and sisters.
