Meet member #4 of our Spooky Cat Colony! 🧹

Willow Witch is a Barn Cat who belongs more to the property than to people to live there! She is somewhat socialized, but lives primarily outdoors, hunting mice and rats. The best way to help Willow is to provide food, water, shelter, and veterinary care if necessary.

Meet member #3 of our Spooky Cat Colony! πŸ”©

Freya Frankenstein is a Lost/Left Behind Cat who is tame and friendly! She was once somebody’s pet, but her people moved and she can’t find her way home. The best way to help Freya and cats like her is to get them scanned for a microchip and connect them with a local rescue.

Meet member #2 of our Spooky Cat Colony! πŸŽƒ

Percy Pumpkin is a Neighborhood Cat who collects porches like candy! He has a home, but wanders freely and is fed by several different families along the way. The best way to help him is to support spay/neuter efforts. Even a well-loved cat like Percy can contribute to overpopulation.

Meet member #1 of our Spooky Cat Colony! πŸ‘»

Gideon Ghost is a Truly Feral Cat who haunts the neighborhood on his own terms! He was born wild, keeps his distance, and is not socialized to humans. The best way to help Gideon is to support Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs that keep his colony healthy.

What are Community Cats?

Community Cats or "free-roaming" cats are what most people refer to as feral.

But while "feral" actually refers to unsocial behavior displayed towards people, community cats include a range of outdoor-cat behaviors and histories.

They can be neighborhood cats, barn cats, alley cats, semi-feral, stray, lost or abandoned cats, or even truly feral.

Regardless of whether a cat loves or fears people, any unaltered outdoor cat can reproduce and contribute to the homeless cat problem.

Loving a pet means wanting the best for them, but vet care shouldn't be inaccessible. 🐾 That's where Washington Health Outreach comes in, making sure cost is never the reason someone can't care for the pet they love.

Tipped & free? Just leave me be!

Have you ever seen a kitty missing the tip of its ear?

An ear-tip is a visual indicator that a feral or community cat has been spayed/neutered through a TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) program. It's a safe and humane procedure that removes about one centimeter of the tip of an adult cat's ear while the cat is under anesthesia for surgery! It also helps prevent re-trapping, transport, stress, and unnecessary anesthesia on these cats.

Our friends at Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Project tip the left ear for males, and the right ear for girlsβ€”(because girls are always right! ;)

So If you're wondering about a cat with an ear-tip, you can leave it be! It won't be contributing to overpopulation and has already been altered to prevent future homeless cats!
_
For Feral Cat Month, many of our employees will be sporting cat-ear headbands with ear-tips as a reminder!
