Kevin McKinstry Installed as Alabama Wildlife Federation President
Mr. Kevin McKinstry was installed as President of the Alabama Wildlife Federation (AWF) for the 2026-2027 term at the organization’s Annual Meeting on August 8, 2026. Mr. McKinstry has served on the AWF Board of Directors since 2017 and brings to AWF a commitment to conservation of Alabama’s wildlife and related natural resources and outdoor pursuits.
“Kevin has been an outstanding board member and leader. We are fortunate to have someone with his wildlife management experience, talent, and energy serve as the next President of AWF. He will be an asset to AWF and we are looking forward to a productive term under his guidance.” stated Tim L. Gothard, Executive Director of AWF.
As AWF President, Mr. McKinstry leads the Board of Directors, serves on the AWF Executive Committee, the AWF Governor’s Conservation Achievement Awards Committee, and a variety of other AWF committees. Throughout his tenure on the AWF Board he has been a key thought leader on wildlife and wildlife management topics and an advocate for all AWF programs, projects, and initiatives.
Mr. McKinstry is a Certified Wildlife Biologist with over 45 years of professional experience in wildlife management and outdoor recreation. A graduate of the University of Florida, he serves as Recreation Division Director for The Westervelt Company and was appointed in 2018 by Governor Kay Ivey to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management Commission.
Investing in his wildlife management profession and volunteer service have always been important to Mr. McKinstry. In addition to his years of service to the Alabama Wildlife Federation, he is a member of The Wildlife Society, participates in the Southeast Deer Management Study Group, and volunteers with the Regions Tradition golf tournament.
Outside of work, Mr. McKinstry enjoys outdoor pursuits including hunting, sporting dog training, golf and boating. He and his wife Anita reside in Northport.
