🐾 HRKC Weekly Pack Walk Adventure! 🐾

3/7/26 – Dungeness Recreation Area

Today our Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club members enjoyed our weekly walk at the beautiful Dungeness Recreation Area — and what a wonderful day it turned out to be!

We covered 3.25 miles through forest trails, open meadows, and along the ocean. Along the way we spotted several deer 🦌, a couple of horses, and met some wonderful dogs and their owners enjoying the trails.

The walk started with a light sprinkle, but soon the weather turned warm and dry, making it a perfect day to be outside with our dogs.

A huge thank you to Cathy, Pat, and Gio who organize a new adventure for us every week. We are so lucky to have such beautiful places to explore right here in our county.

These weekly walks are a great opportunity to:
🐾 Get to know our club members better
🐾 Get some exercise
🐾 Explore the beauty of Clallam County
🐾 And most importantly — make our dogs very happy!

Already looking forward to next week’s adventure! 🐕✨

We love and appreciate our local K9 Units! 🐾

We are especially proud to share that the Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club sponsored the Port Angeles Police Department K9 Unit grant application for funding through the AKC Reunite K9 Grant Program to help purchase a new K9. This is the second AKC Reunite K9 Grant that HRKC has sponsored for PAPD, and we are honored to continue supporting our local department.

With K9 Copper preparing for retirement, this grant funding will help PAPD welcome a new four-legged officer to continue the important work of keeping our community safe.

Purpose-bred working dogs like these are truly vital to the safety and security of our communities. We are grateful to support the teams — both human and canine — who serve and protect every day. 💙🐕

Gratitude

Yesterday PAPD was notified by the Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club regarding the approval for a $7,500.00 grant for the Port Angeles Police Department K9 Unit.

PAPD appreciates the generous support of this important program. The Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club has been a long time and strong supporter of the Port Angeles Police Department’s K9 Unit. We understand from our colleague and friend CCSO Undersheriff Lorraine Shore that the American Kennel Club "Reunite’s' program has continued their commitment to help fund and sustain K9 programs like PAPD's. Law enforcement K9 teams provide valuable services to our communities on the Peninsula. Contributions such as the above make a difference in ensuring their continued success.

Attached is a photo of PAPD K9 Handler, Officer Whitney Fairbanks and her partner, K9 Copper, taken at the Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club All-Breed Show, where they (and PAPD K9 Officers Emery and McKnight and Sequim PD K9 Officer Johnson) provided an what we are told was an excellent presentation to the public about their K9 program. K9 Copper is seasoned law enforcement veteran and a purpose-bred working dog.

🐾💙 2/15/26 – Supporting Those Who Serve 💙🐾

The Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club is proud to share that we presented the Sequim Police Department and Port Angeles Police Department K-9 Units with donation checks of $2,000.00 to each unit.

Accepting the donations were:
• Sequim PD K-9 Officer Taran Johnson with K-9 Dutch
• Sequim Police Chief Mike Hill
• Port Angeles PD K-9 Officer Whitney Fairbanks with K-9 Copper

In addition to accepting the donations, the K-9 officers provided an informative presentation to our club members about their K-9 programs — sharing how the dogs are selected and trained, the types of work they perform, and the ongoing commitment required to maintain these highly skilled teams. It was both educational and inspiring to learn more about the dedication behind these working partnerships.

These donations were made possible by the dedicated members and volunteers of HRKC who devoted countless hours to hosting four AKC canine events in 2025:
• May Scent Work Trial
• May Agility/Rally/Obedience Trials
• July All-Breed Dog Show
• August Agility Trial

Because of our exhibitors, volunteers, and community supporters, we are able to give back locally in meaningful ways.

💙 Why K-9 Programs Matter

Police K-9 teams are highly trained working units that assist in suspect apprehension, tracking, narcotics detection, evidence searches, and community outreach. These dogs and their handlers undergo extensive training and ongoing certification to ensure they are prepared to serve and protect our communities safely and effectively.

K-9 programs are often supported in part by donations. Funds help with the purchase of K-9 dogs, specialized training, equipment, and medical care throughout the dog’s working life.

🐾📣 2/15/26 – HRKC Club Meeting Today! 📣🐾

Join us today at 2:00 PM at the Working Spot📍 755 W. Washington Street, Sequim

We are honored to be presenting the Sequim Police Department and Port Angeles Police Department K9 Units with donation checks to support their incredible programs.

These donations are made possible through the dog events we host each year — including Scent Work, Agility/Rally/Obedience trials, and our All-Breed Dog Show. Thanks to the support of our exhibitors, volunteers, and community, we are able to give back in meaningful ways.

Each year, our members select four organizations to support, and we are especially proud to stand behind the dedicated men and women — and their purpose-bred working dogs — who serve and protect our communities every day. 🐕‍🦺💙

We hope you’ll join us for this special presentation!

❤️🐾 2/14/26 – HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY! 🐾❤️

What better way to spend Valentine’s Day than with happy dogs, great friends, and fresh Olympic Peninsula air? 💕

The Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club weekly walk did not disappoint! Today we started at the Lofgrin Road trailhead and headed East on the Olympic Discovery Trail, winding through lush fern-filled and moss-covered forest trails (seriously — Clallam County has some of the most beautiful and varied scenery anywhere 🌲✨).

From there we made our way down to John Wayne Marina (yes, that John Wayne 😉), looped back through gorgeous forested paths to the Johnson Creek Trestle, and finished up on the ODT.

✔️ Perfect weather
✔️ 3.5 miles of exercise for dogs and humans
✔️ Tons of great photos
✔️ The very best way to strengthen friendships among club members

We truly “paw-sitively” love these weekly walks and the amazing community that makes them so special 💕🐶

🌲🐾 2/7/26 – Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club Weekly Dog Walk! 🐾🌲

Last week our HRKC members hit the trail to explore the Olympic Discovery Trail from Keeler Road, walking East — and what a beautiful day to get out and move!

The ODT entrance near Keeler Road in Port Angeles is located at Highway 101 & Strait View Drive (Morse Creek area). There’s a small gravel parking lot on the north side of Hwy 101, and the paved trail is directly across the road, leading toward the scenic trestle crossing over Morse Creek. It’s a gorgeous stretch and perfect for getting those paws (and feet!) moving.

🐶✨ Walking with purpose! Did you know that these weekly walks can also help you and your dog work toward earning AKC FITDOG titles? The American Kennel Club’s FITDOG program lets dogs and their owners earn Bronze, Silver, and Gold fitness titles by completing and documenting activities like walks, hikes, runs, and more together. It’s a wonderful way to stay motivated, get fit, and bond with your pup! Learn more here: https://www.akc.org/sports/akc-family-dog-program/akc-fit-dog/

We encourage all dog lovers to hit the trails, take in the sights, and enjoy getting fit and having fun with your furry companions. There’s nothing better than happy dogs, fresh air, and good company! 🐕💚
