This is an appreciation post for the Sage Family and their creation of Sage Horse Camp! This beautiful place provides comfortable access for campers and their equine companions. help to maintain the surrounding trails and we use this facility regularly for events.

This is our annual fundraiser - All proceeds support local trail maintenance and advocacy efforts. Bring your horse, your friends, your sense of adventure, and your support for Washington’s backcountry trails!

We’ve been kicking around a few ideas for group rides over the Summer. West to East? Back to front? Rides of Summer? Not sure if we ever nailed the title but pretty sure we nailed the experience. Basically we wanted to offer geographically accessible rides in both Clallam and Jefferson Counties. Attempting to give riders varying options for terrain, challenge level, and special features. Our volunteer hosts, Judy Dupree for Clallam and Nicole Witham for Jefferson, organized two unique rides, across two counties, just this last weekend. The result was a total success and so much fun was had by all!

SATURDAY Judy and her horse Reba took folks up to the lookout on the Foothills Trail in Port Angeles, WA.

SUNDAY Nicole and her guy Romeo cruised a mellow loop around Chimacum Ridge a community forest in Chimacum, WA.

Much gratitude to the landowners that allowed our guests and their equine companions! Washington State Department of Natural Resources Jefferson Land Trust Glendale Farm and Dharma Ridge Farm

THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS who rode trail, trimmed trees, clipped ribbons, and collected paperwork. We were able to offer these rides free due to your generosity.

THANK YOU RIDERS who came from all over each county and from as far as Sumner, WA! We had a fantastic time and hope to offer more organized rides like this in the future.

Come join our host Nicole Witham and her good boy Romeo for a 5 to 8 mile marked ride along Chimacum Ridge in Chimacum, WA. This is an open ride for Chapter Members and anyone interested in learning more about Back Country Horsemen! Chimacum Ridge is a working community forest that has been protected by Jefferson Land Trust and for this ride we will be parking at Glendale Farm to access the trails.

WHEN: Sunday, August 16th - Arrive no later than 9:00am for intro and safety meeting. Boots in stirrups by 10:00am.

DIRECTIONS: Parking at Glendale Farm - From Center Road in Chimacum - Turn onto Ole Torkelson Road. Parking will be in the field on the left. Look for BCHW signs. THANK YOU GLENDALE FARM and DHARMA RIDGE FARM for allowing us access!

TRAIL DESCRIPTION: Gravel road and some single track side trails for 5 to 8 mile options with some minor elevation changes. Hoof protection recommended. Chimacum Ridge is a working community forest that has been protected by Jefferson Land Trust. There is an easy loop which is primarily logging road, or you can choose to explore other side trails all of which are marked! Choose your own adventure for a 5 to 8 mile ride.

FUN FEATURES: Be sure to stop at the West Valley lookout which has stunning views of the valley below and the olympics in the distance. Great spot to stop for a snack or photo opportunity!
