On September 27, an avalanche struck Himlung Himal base camp in Nepal, burying Nepali mountain workers who were supporting an expedition. Most were base camp and kitchen staff.

We have launched a fund to provide direct support to their families. The Juniper Fund will manage the distribution of cash assistance through our staff and infrastructure in Nepal.

Search efforts are ongoing, and we will share updates as we learn more.

Our program director in Nepal has now sat down in person with each of the five families in Nepal.

They're in the middle of their religious ceremonies, so we're giving them that time. We're not asking anything of them right now. We're simply present, and they know we'll be back.

Behind the scenes: gathering documentation, getting paperwork in order so funds move efficiently and in full compliance in Nepal. Not the exciting part. The part that makes five years possible.

We're not at our goal yet. That doesn't change what we've promised these families.

The worst alpine disaster in a decade killed 10 people, including five Sherpas. Now, crowdfunding campaigns seek to support their families.

On July 30, 2026, an avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan killed ten climbers, including six local mountain workers. Their deaths are a direct consequence of the risks these workers take every season, risks The Juniper Fund exists to answer.

We don't hand over cash and walk away. We start with a five-year financial commitment - $4,000 per family, per year - then build the relationships that carry it forward: vocational training, education, small business support, and community initiatives so no family carries this loss alone.

We've done this before. 76 families to date. These six need that same commitment today.
