West Hill Community Association Collaboratively building a more equitable, informed, engaged, and vibrant Skyway-West Hill.

WHCA is committed to creating a more equitable, engaged, informed, and vibrant Skyway-West Hill community. We are always looking for ways to improve our area and connect with our neighbors - from showcasing the enormous talent and dedication of those who join our West Hill Action Mob (WHAM) community action parties to watching in amazement as local families fill up a parking lot for our annual Sky

way Outdoor Cinema - we love this place. We know you do too, so we'll do our best to keep you up to date with all of the latest news that affects you and ways for you to get involved! We acknowledge that the community we serve resides on the unceded ancestral lands of the Salish people and the importance of including Indigenous voices and experiences in equity-driven decision making and actions.

Renton School Board members and Superintendent Damien Pattenaude were recently joined by Renton City Councilmembers and Mayor Armondo Pavone for a formal groundbreaking for the new Renton High School construction project. Also on hand were representatives from construction companies, architects, and others responsible for helping the project come to life.

The new school campus is being built on the current Renton High site and expanded area. The original school built in the 1930s will remain in place along with the IKEA Performing Arts Center.

The new campus, scheduled to open in 2029, includes core classrooms and other learning environments for Career and Technical Education, college-level (International Baccalaureate) classes, art, science, electives, health, library, gyms, cafeteria, commons, ball fields, and more.

Learn more about this project and see artist renderings of the new school at www.rentonschools.us .

An emerald ash borer was discovered in Washington— the first detection of this invasive insect in our state.

Two vigilant citizens spotted the live insect on their car window, collected it, and made a report.

As a result of their efforts, the Washington State Department of Agriculture and the United States Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service confirmed their report of emerald ash borer in Vancouver, WA.

The arrival of emerald ash borer means ash trees in our forests, parks, and backyards are at risk. This invasive pest has wiped out more than 100 million ash trees throughout the country.

YOU can help protect our trees:

- Never move firewood more than 10 miles to avoid accidentally transporting forest pests

- Consider planting alternatives to ash trees

- Scan existing ash trees for signs of damage (thinning canopy, small D-shaped holes) or emerging adults (metallic green insect about a half inch in length).

We were so happy to see you on Friday for Hoppers at Skyway Outdoor Cinema. As an all-volunteer nonprofit, your friends and Skyway-West Hill neighbors at West Hill Community Association have been working hard to make our summers more magical since 2003 (and doing our best to fill the gaps in the community since 1991!). We are deeply grateful to our partners and supporters who help make all this happen, and especially to YOU for your donations, reposts, volunteering, and presence. Let’s do this one more time on Friday, August 21 at 7pm in the Skyway fire station training yard. We’re playing “Wicked: For Good” with special live performances by Neon Brass Party and the Daughters of Royalty Drill Team! Also before the movie starts at 8:30, we’ve got tacos, ice cream, popcorn, candy, balloon art, facepainting, bouncers, and interactive jumbo games. See you there!!
