Today is Juneteenth National Independence Day!

Union forces arrived in Galveston, Texas to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation for 250,000 people in and around Galveston Bay nearly two and a half years after Lincoln signed it.

It’s a day of celebration while also acknowledging the disjointed process of freedom.

Last Friday, @‌GoBallardFC players broke a record during their volunteer event. In 30 minutes, around 30 players and staff packed 475 No Cook bags!!!

In between breaking records, we chatted with these talented local soccer players to see who they’re rooting for and watching this World Cup!

Washington Talking Book & Braille Library (WTBBL) is Washington’s only completely accessible library with services for people of all ages unable to read standard print. We are so excited to learn they're reopening to the public starting on Monday, June 22nd!

We are excited to announce that the Washington Talking Book & Braille Library will reopen to the public on Monday, June 22nd!

Beginning June 22nd, visitors are welcome Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Whether you're a patron, volunteer, or community member, we look forward to welcoming you back to the library.

Today’s lunch: Cambodian fish curry also known as Nom Banh Chok! It’s a creamy curry that’s fragrant with basil and has a perfect crunch from the green beans.

Fun fact: Josue, one of our Kindness Cafe Coordinators, learned of this dish from a Cambodian student he met through the youth internship he runs at a local farm during the summer!

Juneteenth is just one week away and it marks the end of slavery when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation more than two years after it was signed into law.

This is the last week of packing Weekend Food For Kids bags. This year our bags of easy-to-prepare meals and snacks went home with around 660 students each week. Here are a few photos from our last few packs of the 2025-2026 school year!
