Our final 2026 FWC Finalist Spotlight is New Horizon Brass!!
New Horizon Brass is a newly formed ensemble made up of graduate students at Yale University. We’re on a mission to make the “brass quintet” medium into a force for artistic change in our community; through educational initiatives, commissions of new works, and engaging performances. We won the 2026 Honors Chamber Competition at Yale School of Music, and have been selected as finalists in the 2026 Frances Walton LMCS Chamber Competition and 2026 MTNA Chamber Music Competition. Our group has also participated in the venture development program at the Tsai Center for Innovative Thinking, which includes support with branding and commercial development. Members of our ensemble have been finalists and winners of prestigious solo and chamber competitions, including the 2026 MTNA Young Artist Solo Competition, the 2025 Frances Walton LMCS Solo Competition, the 2024 Southeast Trombone Symposium Tenor Excerpts Competition, and the 2024 Wagner Chamber Music Competition, and have presented as clinicians at the Northeastern Regional Tuba Euphonium Conference at Boston University.
The 2026 Frances Walton Competition is this Saturday, May 30! Finalists will be performing between 8:30am and 4:35pm at Seattle Opera’s Tagney Jones Hall. Winners are announced at 5:30pm and play a FREE concert at 6pm at the same venue.
