Special Update: Nepal Floods - Our NCF Community Is Safe

Dear NCF Friends and Family,

Thank you to so many of you who have reached out with concern for our students, staff and families in Nepal following the devastating floods that swept through mountain communities this week.

We are relieved to share that everyone in our NCF community is safe.

The catastrophic flooding occurred primarily in north-central Nepal, in the Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading districts near the Tibetan border. NCF's programs are based primarily in Simikot/Humla in far northwestern Nepal, as well as Kirtipur in the Kathmandu Valley, and our NCF Students and Staff have not been directly affected by this disaster.

But we are all deeply affected by what has happened.

Entire mountain communities have been devastated, with homes, roads, bridges, schools and livelihoods swept away. Search and rescue efforts continue, and tens of thousands of people are now facing an enormous recovery.

For those of us who know and love Nepal, this disaster also feels like a sobering warning. Himalayan communities live on the front lines of a changing climate. Warming
temperatures, retreating glaciers, unstable mountain slopes, extreme rainfall and increasingly unpredictable water systems pose growing risks—especially to remote communities with limited infrastructure and few resources for recovery.

At NCF, our mission remains what it has always been: investing deeply in the education and future of girls from Nepal’s most remote mountain communities, empowering them to become leaders, changemakers, and pillars of their society. Events like this remind us just how vital that long-term investment is.

We are enormously grateful for your concern, your messages and your love for our NCF family. We will continue to stay in close contact with our teams in Nepal and will keep you informed should circumstances change.

Can you believe it?!?! NCF is celebrating our 18th anniversary!! What a wonderful journey we all have been on. The best part— seeing our girls grow into the most amazing women! Congratulations to each and everyone of you - a true family filled with love.

During a recent visit to our hostel and school in Simikot our Mentors launched into an especially meaningful training on menstruation, using a curriculum developed by Days for Girls International. The girls were fully engaged and by the end even the youngest students said they were excited to start their periods! Watching them gain confidence discussing topics related to health and self-care was incredibly heartwarming.

Another day to celebrate! We are so pleased to share this happy news! Sunita Lama, Srijana Bohara, and Saradha Bhandari from Grade 9 participated in the inter-school Kho-Kho competition and secured the first position. Congratulations to all!
