Local Government Discipline and Interrogation- HOWES CAVE

In this basic workshop, participants will review the elements of their contract disciplinary procedure and/or Civil Service Law Section 75, the categories of discipline and the basic steps and rights of union representatives and employees in disciplinary interrogations. Completion of this workshop complies with the disciplinary training requirement as outlined in the CSEA Local and Unit Constitutions’ Article V, Section 6. Participants must complete this workshop and be designated by their Local/Unit President to represent members in the disciplinary process.

CSEA Acts After Cybersecurity Incident

CSEA recently identified suspicious activity on their internal computer network and immediately took action to contain the incident. They worked with leading cybersecurity professionals to secure systems, change passwords, deploy enhanced security measures, and restore operations from backups. A thorough investigation determined that limited personal information was accessed by an unauthorized third party. Impacted individuals will soon receive a notification letter with details about the incident and steps they can take to protect their information. If you do not receive a letter, your information is not affected. At this time, there is no knowledge of any identity theft or fraud related to the incident, and a dedicated call center will be available to assist those who receive notices.

As required by law, CSEA reported the incident to the state’s attorney general’s office, which has led to some law firms soliciting individuals for potential lawsuits—a common occurrence following data breaches. Members are encouraged to take everyday precautions such as changing passwords regularly, monitoring accounts, and reporting suspicious activity. This is an internal CSEA matter, and there is no indication that any external employer systems were affected.
