The Christian life is to be lived supernaturally. We are united to Christ not merely as a future hope but as a present reality. The life of God has its place in every born-again believer. This is our assurance that we are truly sons and daughters of Almighty God. As those born of God, we share not only His life but also His authority to carry out His will on earth. Scripture reveals Jesus Christ as both a King and a Priest after the order of Melchizedek. Because we are in Him, we are called to function as both a king and a priest in matters pertaining to God and His Kingdom.

The wonderful truth that has concretely impacted our lives for all eternity is that God is Faithful and Unchanging! Paul makes this incredible statement: “If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself” (2 Tim. 2:13). Malachi declares the very essence of His nature: “For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore, ye sons of Jacob are not consumed” (Mal. 3:6). How necessary it is that we rest in His unchangeableness and in His being forever bound to His Word.

One great lesson we can learn, as believers, is how to anchor our souls in hope. The Biblical concept of hope is far different from how we use it in our everyday speech. Many regard hope as merely wishing or expecting something to happen by chance or coincidence. However, the Bible offers a certainty of hope that gives us a joyful and confident expectation of good. It anchors our souls with a deep, providential assurance that God is true to His Word.

Who is the true bride of Christ, and what standard can we use to determine whether she is fit to meet her bridegroom? How does the church measure up in the eyes of the Lord? What role does grace play in preparing her, or is it entirely based on her performance? We must be careful not to assume our works are the gauge by which we are deemed worthy to go up or be left behind. Our readiness to meet the Lord in the air is judged by whether we are truly born-again, not by our level of maturity. Whenever we prioritize the measure over the message, we shift our identity in Christ from grace to works.

When Solomon wrote, “Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it flow the issues of life,” he was emphasizing the need to guard what we allow in through our sense gates because everything we take in, whether audibly, visually, or verbally, can affect the flow of life from within. Our ears, eyes, and mouth are all considered gateways to our inner life. Jesus said, “Out of your belly shall flow rivers of living water” (John 7:38). It is in our best interests to make sure we keep those rivers free from any form of defilement or contamination.

If there is one thing evident about the life of Christ, it is His passion to do the will of God. Everything about His life flowed from this pursuit. His ultimate assignment was to love people and to show us the true heart of the Father. As we grow in our passion to follow in His steps, we will find that the love of God is missional (Luke 4:18, 19). What kept Christ bound to His divine purpose was love. So much in this incident can be unpacked for our learning. The truth is that we do not need to live in fear of adversity. Jesus showed us how He walked into a troubled situation without it affecting Him. He proved that faith is the conquering power that enables us to walk on top of what is contrary. No matter what tries to resist what God has especially told us to do, we have the power to overcome every circumstance, regardless of how boisterous the winds and waves may appear to be.

Walking in the Spirit is not a fixed, permanent state we attain at the moment of receiving the Holy Spirit. It is a continual process that requires daily renewal and surrender to the Holy Spirit’s governance. When Jesus commanded His disciples to tarry in Jerusalem until they were “endued” with power from on high, He was not referring to a mere experience but to a transformation of their lives that would literally shape their conduct, character, purpose, and service (Luke 24:49, Acts 1:4, 5).

The Bible makes it clear that God’s intention for each of us is that we grow and mature in our Christian life. Peter writes: “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby” (1 Pet. 2:2). In his second epistle, he ends with these words: “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ…” (2 Pet. 3:18). To grow and mature in the things of God is not a “one-size-fits-all” approach to life. There are many variables involved in growing up spiritually.
